Don’t let this one’s small stature fool you. UFC Undisputed 2010 on PSP packs nearly as big of a punch as its console brethren, allowing you to bust noses and break arms with all your favorite fighters, moves, and modes. UFC Undisputed 2010's console edition is -- bar none -- the world heavyweight champion of MMA games. Granted, the game kind of snatched the throne by default, but it hardly slacked its way to the top. Deftly combining the blood, sweat, and tears of a very complex sport with a considerable dosage of glitz and glamour, it's one of the best tools in the UFC's promotional arsenal. So clearly, its portable version's tiny fighters have some pretty big shoes to fill. This can't end well, right? Wrong, actually, because UFC Undisputed 2010 on PSP is -- shockingly enough -- a near-perfect complement to its console cousins. The game's presentation has definitely taken a hit in the jump to a smaller, weaker platform, of course, resulting in lower visual fidelity and an audience made up of about ten cardboard cutouts.

UFC Undisputed 2010 left a knockout effect on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when it came out earlier this summer, despite the fact it's not selling as well as last year's edition. It still improved in enough places to be considered a worthwhile brawler, however. If you own a PSP, it’s your turn to dominate in the ring with your own version of Undisputed, although it doesn't quite have the same jaw-knocking impact as before. Part of the problem is that some of the game’s presentation was lost in translation. There are still plenty of fighters to choose from across multiple weight divisions (including superstars Brock Lesnar and Mikro Cro Cop), and a lot of official venues to choke out your opponents in. However, you can tell through a few small problems that this isn't the same game as it was on the consoles. First of all, the loading times are atrocious. You're stuck waiting about one full minute for a match to load up, compared to the small amount of time in other versions. Even if you have the game installed to your PSP Go, you’ll have to endure these wait times. Once you get past that, there’s the fighting itself. While the fighters look impressive and interact with each other substantially, they're a little more robotic.
UFC Undisputed 2010 PSP Review
UFC Undisputed 2010 on PSP is going to be an interesting case study. Here, you have a portable port of a big budget PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 game. The fighters, modes, and options you'd expect from those versions have been carried over to the PSP, and from a broad perspective the transition went smoothly. Still, this version is four months old and missing the polish that made the console games shine. Plus, in reality, if you were the world's biggest UFC fan, chances are that you've already played this game in one of its other incarnations. However, I can tell you that this game is good. Sweep the leg!If you're just joining us, UFC Undisputed 2010 is THQ's latest take on the sport that Dana White built. Pick up this UMD (there's not a downloadable version at the moment) and you're getting more than 100 fighters, a slew of stadiums, and a bunch of modes. You can square off in exhibition matches and even take on your friends via ad-hoc mode, guide a created fighter through a career, or relive/rewrite a classic UFC bout. All of that's great, but how does it play? You figure mixed martial arts is a complicated sport and UFC games have always packed a complicated control scheme to mimic that.
