Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X Tekken is, without any question, the most divisive fighting game Capcom has ever produced. At no point in Street Fighter’s 25-year history has a single entry so completely embodied the unique dichotomy that exists within its fan base. It's easy to argue that casual fight fans are usually playing an entirely different game from the hardcore nuts, but for SFxT, this proves especially true. Players looking for a good time with some buddies and beers won’t find it any more or less entertaining than Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition or Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but for more serious challengers, it leaves a lot to be desired. How much you get out of the Vita release – which is seven months late to the market -- will have a lot to do with which category you place yourself in. Of course, the main goal here was to create a console caliber experience on the go, and Street Fighter X Tekken on Vita does a passable job of it. Content-wise, you get the complete experience. Every character, stage and feature from the home version is at your disposal, including online matchmaking and the battle log feature which keeps a rolling record of your most recent fights so you can re-watch them as you please.

Street Fighter X Tekken (Preview)

Kuma the bear is in his Hunting Stance. I don't know much about bears, so I have no idea what they look like when they're after something to chew on, but in Street Fighter X Tekken, Kuma's Hunting Stance involves him dropping down on all fours. From here, with a bit of experimentation, I find a way to make him lie flat on the ground."Hang on," says Leo. "How did you make him do that?"This is Leo Tan, PR man. He may not know much about bears either, but he certainly knows a lot about fighting games. Given that he works for Capcom, you'd expect Leo to know Street Fighter X Tekken inside out. But at this stage of proceedings, there are things that even he doesn't know. Fighting games tend to undergo significant changes during development, with major differences even between consecutive builds. So, in today's code Hugo - the gargantuan wrestler from Final Fight and Street Fighter III 2nd Impact - is an absolute beast, an unstoppable giant who can eat your combos and then squish you with a command throw. But in the next build, he'll almost certainly be nerfed. At this stage, part of the fun lies in working things out for yourself.

Street Fighter X Tekken (Preview)

From X-Men to Tatsunoko, Capcom's Versus series has pitted the developer's most iconic characters against warriors from other worlds. Now the cast of Tekken has thrown its hat into the ring. The resulting clash is a tag-team fighter in which losing a partner means losing the round. While receiving a royal beatdown from Capcom special adviser Seth Killian, we talked with producer Yoshinori Ono about the adaptation of Hugo, Ibuki, Raven, and Kuma, as well as some possible additions to the game's combat mechanics. We began our session by sampling Ibuki and Hugo. As we played, Ono revealed that the team at Capcom has two very different approaches for adapting these characters. Hugo, who hasn't appeared in a game in nearly 10 years, probably isn't too well remembered by a lot of fans, he said. Therefore, the team has taken some extra liberties in adjusting his character--including new moves using the floor and walls. Capcom took a more conservative approach to Ibuki's adaptation. Ono revealed that she will play very closely to her Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition incarnation and that the level of familiarity fans have with a character heavily influences the amount of change that character receives.
