There have been many Naruto games before, but Generations boasts both the rosters of young Naruto and friends, and the older Shippuden variety. Each character has a familiar list of moves and Chakras – from the silent and grim to the appropriately comical – in a faithful fighter that suffers from a disconnect between what's wanted in a video game from anime fans and fighter enthusiasts. Naruto games are more story-focused than the usual Street Fighter ilk, though focus isn't to be confused with adeptness. Known and loved as the Naruto storyline is, Generations merely provides comic-style summaries between fights, one frame at a time. Visually, Generations is exactly what Naruto fans are after. Rather than locking onto your fighter, the camera will zoom in and out, keeping both players on-screen as they run around the 3D arena. Seeing Naruto replicate himself to overwhelm an enemy, and the equivalent stylish realizations of 71 other playable characters, is the game's main strength. And with only one attack button, it also happens to be the easiest 27-hit combo you'll ever pull off. Any assumptions you're making about that are probably right.
When it comes to a unique type of third-person fighter, one must think of Naruto. It is like a cross between Dragon Ball and Pokémon. But instead of searching for magic balls or trying to \"catch them all”, it's a story of personal fulfillment and lifelong sacrifices. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations is the third installation of the Ninja Storm series and has stayed true to its TV-show counterpart. This makes the game more gripping and easily translated when up against the conflicts you so often see Naruto and fellow heroes facing. But what if you don't watch the show or haven't played other Naruto titles? Well, then it feels like you're stranded on an island with Gilbert Gottfried and all he wants to do is talk about tax exemptions. Okay, it may not be that bad, but the Naruto franchise is one that you must understand to enjoy. First-time comers will quickly learn this isn't like any fighting game they've played before. Knowing high kick and low punch combos won't merit any victories here. Though the game has very basic and simple controls, you must know the best time to use certain moves. There is a training mode, but not much of a tutorial on how to use the characters. The custom style of the fighting system is based on timing.
Bold, brash and bombastic, the world of Naruto and his ninja cohorts seems tailor made for video games. Often revolving around larger-than-life conflicts and epic battles, this tale of a young warrior with overwhelming power has been the subject of numerous games, including two previous installments of the Ninja Storm series (which are themselves part of a long-running Ultimate Ninja franchise). While deriving much from its predecessors, Ninja Storm Generations continues to refine itself in a few key ways. The series still struggles from some of the same pitfalls, but make no mistake about it - this is a gorgeous game that should be played by avid fans and casual observers alike. The story of the Naruto series has been well-explained by this point, most notably in the previous two games. Generations' single-player, story-based component attempts a new approach, opting for well over a half dozen, isolated story lines that gradually unlock as players complete other segments. These concepts eliminate any sort of hub world, instead bridging key battles with quick, effective recaps to set up the next conflict. All of these chapters focus in some way on Naruto Uzumaki and his friend/rival/enemy Sasuke Uchiha, observing each ninja's struggles and triumphs as they clash again and again throughout their lives.
