Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure review
Pixar is probably my favorite film studio. From WALL-E to Toy Story, they craft tales that are visually stunning and capture the minds of adults and children alike. Having loved Kinect Disneyland Adventures so much, I was very excited when I learned about Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure. I live in a household where my 55 inch television is dominated by my 3-year old son and his love for Cars, Cars 2, Toy Story, Muppets and anything with trains. I get around this by buying the video games of movies/shows he likes — I have the Toy Story 3 game, Cars 2, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, and Once Upon a Monster. Now, I can add Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure to that list. Kinect Rush places you alongside some of your favorite Pixar characters from the movies Ratatouille, Toy Story 3, Cars/Cars 2, UP, and The Incredibles. In the game, you start out by putting yourself into the game. The Kinect sensor will scan your body and create an avatar of you in the game. That avatar affects how you look in each of Pixar's different movies — the color of your car, toy, super hero, etc. It's a nice idea, except it doesn't really work all that well. I was wearing a blue shirt, I have a slight tan, and I have brown hair.
Kinect Rush Review
Last year's Disneyland: Kinect Adventures was an unexpectedly fun take on both Disney properties and Kinect, offering a detail-rich presentation and fun mini-games that Disney fans would undoubtedly love. Kinect Rush looks to capitalize on a similar experience. However, instead of delving into Disney's theme parks again, Kinect Rush presents a world connecting the films of Pixar, the acclaimed animation studio behind Toy Story, Up!, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and others. Kinect Rush bears more than a passing semblance to Disneyland Kinect Adventures, as both games stick you in a central hub and allow you to explore a variety of fully-fledged worlds. However, Kinect Rush offers more of an action-adventure take, where most levels unfold in third-person action style gameplay focused on collecting coins, performing specific goals, and getting a high score at the end. Kinect Rush Gameplay At the start, Kinect can scan your face and create an avatar based on your appearance. Conceptually, you only need to stand in the right position and Kinect Rush will do the rest. In my case I had trouble getting the game to register my position and create an accurate likeness of me. But considering I'm taller than the game's target demographic, I figured I'd let it slide.
