Dance Central is arguably the Kinect's best game. Not only did the game actually work at reading your movements successfully, it also dethroned Rock Band as the ultimate party game. Harmonix' answer to the best dancing game is the sequel to the best dancing game. Dance Central 2 takes pretty much everything that made the first game great and adds some much needed improvements that truly take it to the next level. DC2 is still that dancing game you know and love. You will still be following on-screen dancers that are much better than you, while trying to anticipate upcoming moves from the scrolling flash cards on the side. You still have a great selection of music that includes hits that you hear on the radio, as well as some throwbacks that are still enjoyable to shake your booty to. Some of the tracks include Bruno Mars' 'Grenade', Sean Kingston's 'Fire Burning', and Lady GaGa's 'Bad Romance' and 'Born This Way', but Sir Mix-A-Lot's 'Baby Got Back' is a definite crowd pleaser. The total of 44 tracks can be found on the disc, with DLC undoubtedly available, as well. One big addition to the game is its "Campaign" mode.
Let's be honest, the pickings have been mighty slim for the Kinect. Even a year later, I'm about to call a rhythm game from Harmonix the only reason to own a Kinect this holiday season. I'm having the weirdest déjà vu right now. Regardless, Dance Central 2 really is the only reason to own a Kinect this holiday. It basically replaces the original Dance Central by implementing the soundtrack export Rock Band 2 started. Throw that disc away, folks! Dance Central 2 is the only game you'll ever need for Kinect (so far). The flash cards return as do several moves from the previous game's soundtrack. New songs introduce new moves and finishers while breaks in each track allow you to improvise and make an ass out of yourself for the entire world to see.... I am the center of the universe, right? As fun and intuitive as mirroring the on-screen dancers is, there are still small nagging issues with the technology powering the experience. It's hard to fault Harmonix for the hardware issues, but they exist and it will deflate your enjoyment of the game. Joining the new songs, dancers, and venues is the ability to perform side-by-side with a second player.
Plucking up the courage to hit the dance floor can be difficult, but Dance Central 2 does an excellent job of getting you moving and shaking to some great tunes. Its multiple difficulty levels and in-depth tutorials make things accessible for newcomers, while expertly choreographed routines and some frighteningly technical moves mean even pros can be challenged. Dance Central 2 introduces simultaneous two-player competitions, letting you compete against a friend in exciting dance battles that are all accurately tracked by the Kinect. Even if you don't bring a friend along, the new Crew Challenge career--complete with its wacky storyline--and sweat-inducing fitness playlists are excellent and keep you engrossed. Whether you're an experienced dancer, a Friday night rocker, or someone with two left feet, Dance Central 2 will delight you with a slick, well-presented dancing experience that no Kinect owner should be without. Part of Dance Central 2's fun is how easy it is to jump straight into a dance; you pick a song and mirror the actions of a dancer onscreen. Cue cards scroll along the right-hand side to show you upcoming moves, while the dancer's limbs light up red when there's a move you're not performing correctly.

Dance Central 2 won't make you a real dancer (and it'll probably embarrass you if you try to play it in front of your friends) but it's still the best dance game available today. Whatever other insignificant talents I may possess, no one has ever accused me of being a good dancer. I can shuffle around in stiff rhythm on the dance floor, and I can even put my hands in the air (and wave them like I just don't care). I realize I look silly, but Dance Central makes me forget that. And Dance Central 2, with its tweaks and additions, gives me another great excuse to thrash wildly around my living room and pretend that I'm a useful, talented member of a real dance crew. The soundtrack's a little disappointing, but this is still the best dance game available today. Most of Dance Central 2's improvements include the kind of additions that I wanted to see. A new single-player campaign (which ends with a grueling 5-song, no-pause gauntlet) gives you more purpose when playing on your own. And when you're not getting a move right, the Break it Down tutorials offer even more help than before; you can slow down moves and even record yourself performing to see exactly what you're doing wrong. But most importantly, you can play simultaneously with another person, instead of simply trading off moves back and forth.
Falling in love with somebody that doesn't exist is one of the most soul-crushing feelings in the world. Like when you meet a girl in a dream, and you're totally going to get married and make babies and stuff, and then you wake up. It's torturous. This is very much like what has happened to me with Dance Central 2 and the mesmerising Miss Aubrey. She was in the first game too, but didn't have quite the same impact on me then. This time, her revealing new outfit, expanded repertoire of dance moves and trademark locks of auburn hair have me well and truly infatuated. This is a good metaphor for the game itself. Dance Central is more likely to catch your eye a year down the road; it's tighter, brighter and better to show off to your mates. Kinect has been out for almost 12 months now, and it's clear that Harmonix has become better acquainted with the technology. The camera is more accurate when grading your movements, the menus are easier to navigate, and the game is now capable of tracking two players simultaneously. While there are a bevy of refinements, bells and whistles, there are enough significant additions here to warrant a sequel so soon after the original.Unlike the first game, there's a career mode to bulk things out.
Dance games are fairly polarizing. While there is a rabid fanbase that has gone wild for dance games just like Lady Gaga has gone wild with a glue gun, there is a section of the gaming community that would rather deliver a graduation speech in their underwear than get on stage and dance. I'm somewhere in the middle. I have little problem looking like a fool, but I'm also uncoordinated enough that I can trip over my own rock step. When the first Dance Central came out, I was hesitant to test my dexterity. However, three songs into the game, I could feel myself working up a sweat and getting into the groove. Dancers often talk about the physical euphoria they achieve while moving to the beat of a song, and even the uncoordinated among us can sample this thrill through the magic of Dance Central. It seems like a simple system: Dance Central captures your body motions and delivers feedback on how accurately you match the onscreen prompts. However, it's impressive how this feedback system helps you to quickly pick up new dance moves. I appreciate Harmonix expanding the Break It Down system, which allowed me to more easily focus on the specific moves I struggled to master.
Servants of the dance floor, rejoice: Dance Central 2 continues the full-body experience of the original with new tracks, new routines, and new modes. If you need a great game to break out at a party, or you just love dancing as much as I do, Dance Central will serve your fist-pumping needs. Even with a few hiccups, Dance Central 2 provides further proof that the Kinect can facilitate amazing gaming experiences when they're well designed around Kinect from the get-go. If you missed out on the original Dance Central, don't sweat it. You fill the eager shoes of a dancer aiming to challenge all the best dance crews in town. By dancing against each two-man crew, you'll earn their respect and start down the road to sweet, groovy glory. This scenario makes up the new Crew Challenge mode in Dance Central 2. It contextualizes a ranked progression through all the songs, and gives you a straight-forward way to unlock new crews and outfits for the dancers. More importantly, you use the power of dance to take down a mysterious megalomaniac. How great is that? I'll tell you: pretty great. Dance Central 2 Video Review Like the first game, Dance Central 2 tasks you with following an on-screen dancer and mimicking a dance routine choreographed to some hot beats.
Dance Central 2 continues to be head and shoulders above the competitionDance games are everywhere at gamescom. No matter where you look, there are girls in baggy trousers and crop tops throwing shapes to an audience of mesmerised gamers. Stand around gawping for long enough, and they'll try and pull you up to join them. You need to be quick with your excuses here, or before you know it you'll up there with them. I blamed a twisted ankle and walked away with an impressive limp.Just Dance 3, Singstar Dance, Black Eyed Peas: The Experience, Dance Party; since the rise Wii, Kinect and motion gaming, the genre has exploded. Having played a distressing number of these titles over the past year or so, I can confidently say that Dance Central is the best of the bunch. And it's about to get better.Sitting with Harmonix' John Drake behind closed doors in Cologne, I found out how the sequel differs without having to sacrifice my dignity on stage. Let's get the obvious stuff out the way nice and early on, then: the track list. La Roux, Darude, David Guetta, Flo Rida, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Bananarama have all been confirmed, with plenty more still be announced. More importantly, Daft Punk's Technologic is in there.
While you may think that Gamescom is all about PC strategy titles in which players micromanage the economies of medieval fishing villages, you'd be wrong. Yes, that's a big part of the show, but don't forget: Europe also loves dancing. So it's no surprise, then, to see that Harmonix is here showing off the latest additions to Dance Central 2 for Kinect. Let's talk about some of those new features on display here in Cologne. First, there's the new Dance Battle multiplayer mode. If you tried out the multiplayer in Dance Central, you'll remember having to swap players in and out, taking turns dancing in front of Kinect one player at a time. Dance Central 2 now supports two-player simultaneous dancing, and the Dance Battle mode is where you can add a competitive elements to your moves. In Dance Battle, players dance side-by-side to the same song, with occasional call-and-response moments where the screen focuses in on one player and then lets the other see if they can best their moves a moment later. Another interesting part of Dance Battle is what happens halfway through each song. At the midway point, a random collection of dance moves are shown on the screen with varying points levels to give the losing player a chance to get back into the contest outside the main song. It's sort of like the half-time at a basketball game.
