Bit.Trip Saga Review

In addition to a Wii compilation (check out the full review here), all six Bit.Trip WiiWare titles -- Beat, Core, Void, Runner, Fate and Flux -- have come together as a complete collection for the Nintendo 3DS. But don't let Bit.Trip Saga fool you. Just because it contains the same games as its Wii doppelganger, that doesn't make these two collections identical. The six games themselves comprise the main course of this tasty collection. Each of them provides a different, rhythm-based experience accompanied by a groovy soundtrack, creative gameplay and plenty of challenge. Except for Beat and Flux (both which share a similar, pong-like set-up), each game approaches the rhythm genre from a fresh, new standpoint, from Runner's frenetic platforming to Void's fast-paced exercise in risk vs. reward. Each game proves addicting in its own way, and to have them all together in one, portable cartridge that you can take anywhere makes this collection rather appealing. Unfortunately, the 3DS compilation lacks the additional 20 levels for each game that the Wii version boasts, as well as the online leaderboards. A bummer, for sure, but the gorgeous 3D rendering of Bit.Trip's groovy, floating backgrounds heightens the experience so much it still manages to feel worth the money.
