V-Moda is taking on the high-end cans segment for ‘people on the move’, with plenty of ambition apparently. Launched at around £170, the Crossfade LPs are positioned among the most expensive headphones on the market. Straight out the box, the Crossfade LPs catch the eye. While the arch frame is covered with padded material, you can see the glossy metal they’re built with where the settings are placed. The headphones themselves are covered with chrome plates and can even be customised. Supplied with both a standard cable and a cable with a remote and a mic, the LPs are compatible with your smartphone or computers with a mini-jack combo (headphones + mic). Solid and removable, these cables are reinforced with Kevlar (you’ll have to go some to damage them!). They also come with a semi-rigid cover in the shape of the headphones and while this protects your Crossfades and can hold the wires (as well as a clasp), it is a shame that you can’t fold them up to reduce their size. These headphones are comfortable on the ears (not as comfortable as the Boses) thanks to a dense, thick padding, but your ears will get hot quickly as they’re completely closed. You’ll feel the frame but not too much.

We review V-Moda's bass heavy and uniquely styled Crossfade LP headphones to see if their sound matches their looks.V-Moda, if you’re not familiar with them, is a Hollywood, CA based company that is in the business of merging style, fashion and sound technology into super-hip products they think we will be proud to wear. Sound familiar? It should because the “street-style” approach to making headphones has caught on in a big way. Do a quick search on “stylish headphones” and you’re likely to see a lot of new names replacing industry heavyweights like Sennheiser, Grado and Audio-Technica. A generation of iPod listeners has moved passed the honeymoon period with their portable players. Now that just about everyone has an iPod or music phone, they demand accessories that are as much about making a style statement as they are about making sound. Here, we review the Crossfade LP headphones that V-Moda dubs “audio art”. We test them to see how they hold up to the audio portion of that designation.The Crossfire LP headphones come packaged in a striking molded case that looks like it could have been designed for Spiderman. Its form-fitting contour and webbed, charcoal colored ‘exoskeleton’ opens to a bright red interior.

V-MODA Crossfade LP Review

“Your headphones,” V-MODA CEO Val Kolton says, “should be as unique as your style and music”, a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the company's latest model, the Crossfade LP. Designed to be as distinctive visually as they are audibly, V-MODA reckon they're the product of four years work and untold collaboration with music industry pros. The company also claims they're the ultimate in versatility; we slotted in our favourite Val Doonican cassette to find out. If you're giving the Crossfade LP headphones as a gift then the lavish packaging - complete with crocodile-affect handle held in place with angular metal studs - probably comes as a bonus. If you're of the impression that the box is just something to stop your headphones getting beat up on the way from the factory, then you might wonder how much they added to the Crossfade LP's bottom line. At $249.99 they're hardly cheap, but then neither are their high-profile rivals like Monster's Dr.Dre-blessed BEATS range. Inside the box there's a hard-shell carrying case moulded to the shape of the headphones themselves. Unzip it and you'll find the accessories, neatly tucked into elasticated pouches and straps.
