Tt eSPORTS MEKA G1 Keyboard Review

As the popularity of the eSports movement continues to rise, more and more manufacturers are looking to the demand for quality PC peripherals as a market to be served. Thermaltake, who have long catered to the PC gaming enthusiast, have reacted to this trend by establishing the Tt eSPORTS brand. Today, we’ll be looking at one of their high end entries in the gaming keyboard market, the MEKA G1. Up to 1000Hz Polling Rate – 8x quicker than regular gaming keyboard; Never lag for action performing Yes, you can overclock the USB polling rate to 1000Hz, and in theory this results in faster response. That said, the debounce algorithms in any decent keyboard controller make any polling rate above 200Hz a waste. Cherry Black Mechanical Switch – Enables an excellent gaming elastic capability with life expectancy for up to 50 million keystrokes Pretty much spot-on here; Cherry’s MX switches are the most common mechanical keyswitches on the market, and are quite well regarded.

Thermaltake eSports Meka G1 Keyboard

With the plethora of keyboards available on the market, choosing the right keyboard can pose a difficult task. While majority of the keyboards share a set of common features, there are several that stand out of the crowd. Mechanical keyboards, in particular, provide a completely different experience by reducing the response time, providing tactile response, as well as a completely different feel for the keyboard. While mechanical keyboards are not new to the market, their availability has significantly decreased due to high production costs. Mechanical keyboards used to dominate the keyboard market until the development of significantly cheaper rubber dome and zipper switch keyboards. While the overall price for the newer keyboards created a more affordable market, the quality of the keyboards has declined significantly. In 2010, a variety of different distributors, including Thermaltake, released relatively cheap high performance keyboards oriented specifically for gaming audience. With significantly faster response rate and extreme durability these mechanical keyboards provide top performance in gaming as well as other daily appliances.

Thermaltake Meka G1 Gaming Keyboard Review

When it comes to considering parts for your next build or something good to upgrade to, normally people think of the latest CPU, video card or larger hard drive. But, one seldom considered upgrade are the peripherals that you use on a daily basis to run your system. By those peripherals I am talking about the glanced over keyboard and mouse. These devices are just as critical to your system as any of the internal components, are abused more and generally take a physical beating. When you are into gaming as much as I am, the keyboard and mouse make a big difference as to whether you are the one being killed or the one performing the famed T-bag dance. Keyboards are important to a computer system since they are pounded on more than any other device. You use keyboards for gaming to direct your character, typing up reports and important documentation and even searching for a movie to pass the time away. Not every keyboard is made the same and while some offer the best of frills they might not have your typing interests in mind. Today we are going to be taking a look at a high grade keyboard developed by Thermaltake eSports.

Tt eSports Meka G1

Thermaltake and its gaming subdivision, Tt eSports, enjoy skirting extremes - even where usually unexciting keyboards are concerned. In December we looked at the company's Challenger Gaming Keyboard Pro ($69.99 list, 3.5 stars), a traditional take on the kind of keyboard aimed at die-hard FPS lovers. Now we meet the Meka G1 ($139.99 list), loaded with hefty construction and serious mechanical key switches that address concerns of diminished functionality once game windows are closed. But its refreshed focus paradoxically results in the loss of the features one typically associates with gaming keyboards. Don't mind the lack of lights, digital displays, or macro keys? Then the Meka G1 is for you. Otherwise, your search for the ideal blend of typing convenience and fragging efficiency does not end here. Still, it's unheard of to see so much attention paid to something other than the bling on a gaming keyboard. In stature and overall feel, the Meka G1 more closely resembles the Das Keyboard ($129.99 direct, 4.5 stars) than the Challenger.
