The Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 is the 2010 update to the XL2370 we reviewed last year . The PX2370's 70 series panel is on paper a step up from the and technically should be the better overall panel in certain viewing environments. While I personally loved the BX2350, I was wondering what this higher model being tested today would bring to the table and whether I would be able to tell the difference when using it for everyday gaming, work and HD video viewing. To find out, I inserted this monitor into my daily workstation and put it through its paces for over a month of 6-8 hour days of slugging through website creation, photo editing, document editing, guilty gaming hours (I should've been working), and viewing online HD content. Let's see how it performed. Thanks to its angular look, the Samsung PX2370 isn't quite as sexy as the XL2370 is. Samsung didn't think out the PX2370's onscreen display placement well--its OSD is inferior to the XL2370's display and makes navigating the menu a less fluid experience. Also, Samsung gave the PX2370 a lower maximum brightness level than it gave its XL2370 display. However, Samsung provided the PX2370 with two key improvements over the XL2370: better movie playback performance and its plethora of useful OSD options. The PX2370 displays colors more accurately during movie playback than the XL2370 does, and it has an onscreen display with more useful features--including one feature we've never seen on a monitor. At only $309--which is $9 more than the XL2370--the PX2370 with its abundance of features and improved movie playback performance edges out its predecessor in value. Design and features The 23-inch PX2370 is Samsung's follow-up to the successful SyncMaster XL2370 that it released in 2009. The PX2370 has a more angular look than the XL2370 has, with sharper corners and more clearly defined edges as opposed to the XL2370's smoother, rounded corners.
The SyncMaster PX2370 is the flagship model of Samsung's 2010 range of monitors. It has a stylish design, blending smooth curves with harder lines in a slim, glossy black and transparent casing. This 23-inch monitor also has LED backlighting which helps push down power consumption. It looks like Samsung has decided to stick to the bare minimum with the PX2370. You'll find DVI and HDMI entries, including an audio output, and a fixed stand that only allows you to tilt the screen very slightly. It's therefore hard to give the PX2370 anything more than two stars in this category. Coloured Transparent Average ghosting over ten frames Although the responsiveness of a TN monitor is usually advertised as 2 or 5 ms, in practice, the actual figures can vary. The good news is that the PX2370 is an excellent 2 ms monitor. In fact, if Samsung had thought to equip it with a 120 Hz refresh rate it could have well have become the new gaming monitor. Even as it stands, the PX2370 would still make a good choice for gamers, especially given that with almost no input lag, there'll be no delay between the moves you make and what you see on screen. Those of you who like to fiddle around in the menu will notice you can change the ‘Response time' setting from 'Fast' to ‘Accelerated'.
