Mad Catz Inc. Cyborg RAT 7 Albino Gaming Mouse
An ordinary, pack-in Dell or HP mouse is probably good enough to get you through the workday. But if you spend your nights and weekends gaming on your PC, you probably want more than two buttons and a scrollwheel. A good gaming mouse is practically an extension of the body--and the Mad Catz Cyborg RAT 7 Albino ($100 as of December 6, 2011) lets you tweak and interchange different parts to make it a perfect fit. Mad Catz used to be the game-controller maker you turned to when you needed a spare console controller or memory card, and you didn't want to pay full price for the official Nintendo/Sony/Sega-branded accessory. The company changed its reputation for cheap, subpar gaming gear a few years ago with the MadCatz FightStick Tournament Edition, a high-quality (and high-priced) arcade stick for fighting-game enthusiasts. Now Mad Catz is making a splash in the PC-peripherals business with the Cyborg RAT 7 gaming mouse, which is physically customizable in ways I've never seen before. The first thing you'll notice is that it resembles a thrown-together collection of plastic and metal plates that vaguely form the shape of a computer mouse.

The Cyborg range of gaming peripherals has had a chequered past. We've seen some ropey gaming keyboards, with action so dead you'd be forgiven for thinking you were prodding Alan Turing himself, and some finger-crampingly bad gaming mice too. Until the Cyborg R.A.T. 7.Looking less like the Microsoft Sidewinder/Vader's Codpiece and more like a deconstructed laboratory prototype, the R.A.T. is one of the most accomplished and comfortable mice we've ever clasped. Being able to manually adjust a surprising number of the R.A.T's constituent parts means you can tailor it to your hand. So long as you're right-handed, that is. More dots This latest version of the R.A.T. 7, the Albino Edition, comes in a rather pleasing white with black and grey detailing. It's not just a change in colour scheme, which is just as well considering you can pick up the vanilla R.A.T. 7 for £15 less. Along with the new colour scheme there's a new sensor which will go up to 6,400dpi compared to the 5,600dpi limit of the standard R.A.T. So it's still the same great mouse we previously loved, only with an increased dpi limit and a funky new skin.
R.A.T 7 Gaming Mouse Albino Edition Review
MadCatz are known for making very unique looking products but its not until you have a blast on the Cyborg R.A.T 7 Gaming Mouse, that you feel like their products are unique. The R.A.T 7 is one of the most customisable mouses out there, it has three interchangeable palm rests, and three pinkie rests, personally I find having the grip palm rest gives me best results when pwning noobs. Underneath the mouse it has five 6-gram weights which you can change and make the weight of the mouse different for different gaming styles. This mouse features a new generation ‘twin eye’ laser sensor which pretty much means its got pinpoint accuracy, it tracks up to 6 meter per second with its 6400 DPI sensor which you can set up to four different custom DPI settings or set it manually to be even more precise! It has five programmable buttons that you can set to whatever you feel necessary. What I really like about the R.A.T 7?s buttons is that they are placed perfectly so it doesn’t feel like you have to stretch to press the buttons, they are located exactly where you want them. Once you have your buttons and settings configured, you can put them in ‘Modes’.
Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T. 7 Gaming Mouse
This is one of those rodents that really doesn't need much in the way of an introduction; the pictures do a fine enough job as is. When this mouse was announced last year, it left a wake of salivation behind it - Mad Catz had come up with a real eye-opener of a mouse. The new Cyborg R.A.T. series of gaming mice are a collection of 4 models, including the R.A.T. 3, 5, 7 and 9, catering to different price and feature ranges. Under review today would be the spearhead of the collection, the R.A.T. 7. Not the most expensive of the bunch, but one that is likely to interest most of our viewers. The basic technical specifications are nothing terribly exciting. A variable 5600 DPI laser sensor, 7 buttons (plus a couple extras), 1000Hz poll rate; just another high-end gaming mouse. There are, however, a few interesting additions not found on other mice: a programmable horizontal thumb scroll and a 'Sniper' button. Logitech has toyed with thumb scrolls in the past, but these have been vertical and align with the middle mouse. The Sniper button on the other hand is definitely a new feature in the market, and one I hope to see more of in the future.
Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T. 7 review
The first Cyborg mouse we looked at, over two years ago, was quite well received despite the irrelevance of the motorised adjustable length. Despite this pointless gimmick it was a functional, multi-buttoned rodent, though not in the same class as the Sidewinders or G9s. The R.A.T. though is a much more competitive beast. There's no comparison at all with the previous Cyborg; sure there's still length adjustment, but that goes along with a host of other tweaks to suit your hand and your grip. And none of them need plugging into your PC to get it going. Instead there's an Allen key screwed into the end of the chassis that allows you to adjust the shape of the mouse to suit. You can even replace a number of the grips to change the shape and tactile sense of the rodent. Physically, this is a mouse that's bound to polarise opinion. It's all sharply angular shapes, cut-out plastic and exposed bare metal innards. As it sits on my desk it looks more like an exploded schematic of the Chris Nolan Batmobile than a functional control device. But it's more than functional and the more I've been using it the more it's grown on me.
