Razer Mamba Dual Sensor 4G

Razer has been creating high end gaming mice since the mid 90's and is gaining a lot of momentum. Gamers have always wanted a wireless mouse that can respond as fast as the wired counterpart. Razer has introduced the Mamba Dual Sensor 4G. This product has finally broken through the barrier and can respond at 1 millisecond wired or wirelessly. It is available now for $130 and is a huge improvement over the last wireless version. Read on to find out more of the details. This is not the first iteration of the Razer Mamba. The previous version has been fully upgraded in almost every aspect. The Mamba's form factor is almost identical to the popular Razer Death Adder, which many find very comfortable for all sizes of hands. The mouse is a little bit more weighty due to its rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack; however, considering its sensitivity, this is a good thing. The mouse weighs in at 138 grams, just shy of 5 ounces. Razer has always delivered in the appearance department. The mouse itself came on its own pedestal, with all the accessories and manuals sorted in a very neat fashion (each component in its own respective mini-box or folder).

Razer Mamba

The 2012 version of the Razer Mamba ($129.99 direct) is no cheap remake of the original Mamba Gaming Mouse - think of it more as an improved version. Equipped with 4G (that means "fourth-generation") dual-sensor tracking technology that utilizes both a laser and an optical sensor, the new Mamba offers up surface calibration for better tracking, and a cutoff point to stop the mouse from tracking upon liftoff. The resolution has been bumped up to 6,400 dots per inch (dpi) and battery life has been boosted to 16 continuous hours. All that will hold you up from your next Call of Duty death match are the long software load times you'll experience when customizing the Mamba's settings. The 2012 Mamba hasn't strayed from the original's design. Its ergonomic curve conforms to your hand, but only if you're right-handed - sorry lefties. The soft rubberized texture is smooth to the touch, but may display grease stains if you like to play and eat at the same time. Rubber grips on the Mamba's right and left sides provide additional traction for your pinky and thumb. Razer has added no buttons; there are still seven. For FPS players there's an understanding that too many buttons can be a bad thing; the Mamba keeps the number of buttons down to what you need in a firefight.

Product Survey: Mice

With its new Mamba mouse, Razer is demonstrating a lot of advanced technology. It boasts a polling speed of 1000 Hz, its laser sensor has a maximum resolution of 5600 dpi and it can be used in either wired or wireless mode. It also includes a built-in memory to store your custom settings and a recharging dock. At first sight, it looks just like the very well known Death Adder from the same manufacturer. The only difference is the scroll wheel and the two extra buttons on the left which now allow you to adjust sensitivity on the fly. Razer's mouse has a maximum resolution of 5600 dpi, but at this level, the sensor is way too sensitive. So much so, in fact, that it becomes impossible to use for work or play. Fortunately, you can use the driver to reconfigure five different levels. Then, to move from one to the other, you just need to use one of the two buttons on the left side of the mouse. For instance, on our test system which uses two 24'' monitors, we went for 800, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 2400 dpi. When you first look at it, the Razer Mamba looks like a mouse that's designed with comfort in mind. However, it doesn't work like that in practice at all.

Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Mouse

There are many known disadvantages with wireless gaming mice such as slower response times, batteries dying and wireless interference. It’s these common stereotypes which has left the wired mouse to rule the gaming scene. Razer, a company not known for doing things by half, has attempted to turn this stereotype around with the Razer Mamba. It’s been years in the making and its features are out of this world. Let’s see how it performs… The Razer Mamba arrives in a slightly unique style of box. It features a transparent acrylic top half where you are able to see the Mamba on its pedestal and a black acrylic bottom half where all the accessories are contained. The bottom acrylic half sits in a cardboard section which lists all the specifications and features. The technical specifications are bullet pointed and an insight behind the technology that the Razer Mamba uses is also given. The features are listed towards the bottom in a mix of languages. On the base of the cardboard section, the package contents and system requirements are listed.
