Although Panasonic has always been better known for its plasma TVs, the firm also makes a selection of LCD models. In fact, it has its own Alpha-IPS screen production plant, making a type of LCD technology developed by Panasonic and used exclusively in its TVs. The ET50 is two steps down from the WT50 in Panasonic's 2012 range, coming in just behind theDT50. It has an active-shutter 3D mode (glasses not included), 800 Hz motion interpolation to help keep fast-moving scenes flowing smoothly (actual screen frequency: 200 Hz) and access to Panasonic's Viera Connect online services. This TV is available in two sizes: the 42" TX-L42ET50 and the 47" TX-L47ET50. We like the new design of Panasonic's TVs. The ET50 casing is sober and understated with the kind of excellent-quality finish that we'd love to see in other manufacturers' TVs. The screen bezel comprises a glossy black rim around the LCD panel, in turn surrounded by a grey plastic frame set into an outer transparent layer. We think it looks great! Like the DT50, this TV has a slim metal stand. No complaints about that—it's ideal. Panasonic's 2012 TV range comes with a new remote control.
