Although it's the low-end choice in OKI's MB400 series, the OKI MB460 ($400 street) delivers some interesting surprises compared to the more expensive OKI MB470 ($450 street, 3 stars) and OKI MB480 ($500 street, 3 stars) that I reviewed earlier this year. It lacks the fax features of the MB470 and MB480, and it cuts corners just a bit on paper handling, but it's the fastest of the three printers, using the default drivers in each case. If you don't need faxing, the faster speed along with the lower price is enough to make it more than attractive. Not too surprisingly, the MB460 has more in common with the MB470 that's the next step up than with the top of the line MB480. All three printers are built around essentially the same LED engine, which works just like a laser, except that it uses LED's instead of a laser as its light source. However the version in the MB460 and MB470 has a slightly lower maximum monthly duty cycle, at 50,000 pages per month rather than 70,000. The MB460 and MB470 also come with a 250-sheet paper tray rather than the MB480's 530-sheet tray, which makes them the same size, at 19.7 by 17.6 by 17 inches (HWD).
