Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800

Keyboards aren't exactly the sexiest peripherals in the market. For most folks, they serve a purely utilitarian purpose and are usually given as much thought as, say, a routine cleaning with the dentist. The Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 ($99.99 list) challenges this notion, and succeeds with lan. It's got all the hallmarks of a good keyboard, like an ergonomically sound design, quick response rate, and wireless connectivity. What sets the K800 apart from the rest, though, is its extra flair, such as sensors that trigger backlighting whenever your hands come in close proximity, or an innovative space-saving design that allows it to stand upright when it's not in use. Of course, all of this comes at an obvious premium: as far as non-gaming keyboards go, the K800's $100 price tag is relatively high. Taken as a whole, though, its price tag is justified by all of its nifty features. It's a superlative typing experience, the Cadillac of keyboards, and our Editors' Choice. The K800's all-plastic chassis sports a sleek, doorstop-shaped design. While the thinnest point is roughly as thick as the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 , its profile tapers towards the rear. Thanks to this wedge shape, the K800 can be stood upright to save desk space whenever it's not in use.

Logitech K800 Wireless Illuminated Keyboard Review

When you find a keyboard you like you never want to change, my keyboard is the one component of my main system that has not changed since 2007! Logitech released the diNovo Edge keyboard back in 2007 and even since it has been my main keyboard. Surprisingly enough logitech still makes it and it sells for just about the same price. I think after 5 years it is time to move on to a new keyboard and I think the K800 wireless keyboard may just be the right keyboard. It has some of the same features of the diNovo Edge as well as some new ones. Read on and see if the K800 can make me let go of my 5 year old diNovo Edge. Special thanks to Logitech for providing us with the K800 Wireless Illuminated Keyboard to review. Logitech always does a great job with their packaging and the packaging on the K800 is no different. Logitech K800

It's been two years since Logitech first debuted its Illuminated Keyboard a corded input device that added an illuminated backlit feature to an otherwise classic PC keyboard. We gave it high marks for its practicality and affordability, but the core design just got an overhaul with the Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800. This new model gets rid of the cord and incorporates not only adjustable brightness but also notable Logitech-exclusive features like the PerfectStroke key system and a USB charger for up to 6 hours of battery life at $99. With all these additions for just $20 more than the original version, it's easy for us to recommend the Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 to anyone shopping for an aftermarket keyboard to use in darker work environments. The main difference with the updated K800 is the keys themselves. The layout is still full-size, but the individual keys aren't as flat or clicky as the original. Instead, they feel a lot like the keys on Logitech's diNovo Keyboard Mac Edition, with a longer depression distance and a rounder shape to accommodate the PerfectStroke key design that allows for 3.2mm of space between each key in addition to uniform tactile feedback across the entire flat key surface.

Logitech has taken its Illuminated keyboard back to the drawing board, adding a detachable USB cable (that also recharges the batteries) and redesigning the keys to make the brand new K800. While the Illuminated had keys with sharper, squarer edges and a futuristic-looking font, the K800 has a more neutral look to it. The keys have rounded edges and the font is much more ordinary. Which do we prefer? It's a matter of personal taste really. We think the Illuminated looks more masculine and geeky, whereas the K800 looks like it's been designed to please as many users as possible. At least, that was the general feeling when we passed it around our offices (which, by the way, are mixed!). For Logitech, it seems that chopping off the cable from the Illuminated and changing the keys a bit just wasn't enough, so you'll also now find: A battery level indicator showing the charge level. An ON-OFF button. A hand proximity sensor. As soon as the keyboard detects your hands approaching, the backlighting is automatically activated to light up the keys. It works quite well too. We found it to be fast and practical, particularly when playing games (or working for that matter) in low light, as it stops you having to fumble around to find the right key to activate the backlighting.
