Logitech C310 HD Webcam

The Logitech HD Webcam C310 isn't the most expensive Webcam in Logitech's arsenal, but it certainly does a fantastic job of shooting 720p HD videos and 5-megapixel still images for $50. Installation is quick and we established video chats using a number of programs including Skype, Google Chat, Windows Live Messenger, and more with no problems thanks to the accompanying Webcam software. With only minor hardware irritations to report, the Logitech HD Webcam C310 makes an excellent option for anyone shopping for a high-quality, affordable aftermarket Webcam. The C310 USB camera mounts interchangeably between a laptop or a desktop, and the basic design consists of a small oval Web camera attached to a swiveling plastic base mount. With two swivel points directly at the foot of the camera and on the heels, it sits comfortably on a thick desktop flat-panel monitor, but the limited range of horizontal movement could be a nuisance for laptop users. In addition, the camera itself weighs next to nothing and provides little to no stationary support against the host computer, so even the slightest jolt can send the camera flying off the base.

The HD Webcam C310 is Logitech's entry-level HD webcam. Although low down in the range, it still has advanced functions such as face tracking, a digital zoom and 720p HD video recording. If we had one piece of advice for Logitech it would be to redesign the C310 stand. The stand isn't particularly stable when placed on a table or when attached to a laptop screen. We found it could only be attached stably to an LCD monitor ... so long as the display's not too slim, of course. Image Quality: generally good, but still not perfect Image quality is pretty good, on the whole. There are a just few small problems, including slightly overexposed whites in low-light conditions and minor difficulties in reproducing some shades in the grey scale. As is the case with all webcams, the image is full of noise and loses detail in low light. Keep your hands off the zoom Although the C310 has a digital zoom, we recommend you leave it well alone as it quickly degrades image quality. Unlike the video sensor, the microphone failed to impress us. It has an irritating tendency to muffle sounds.
