Logitech G700 Wireless Gaming Mouse review

A gaming mouse must be comfortable, responsive, glide easily and have a few decent programmable buttons. A wireless gaming mouse needs to do all this with minimum installation fuss and no lag. A great wireless gaming mouse needs to do all this for less (or at least no more) than the rest, and look rather eye-catching too. Logitech's G700 is a rough and ready wireless gaming mouse trapped in a meek and mild man's body. Its unassuming black silhouette doesn't scream gaming performance, but the polytetrafluoroethylene feet glide over desktops and mouse mats like a buttered greyhound over ice. Even more impressively, its 'gaming grade' sensor clocks 5,700 dpi – that's higher than even Razer's top of the line (and pricier) rodents. The most significant issue with this otherwise fantastic peripheral though, is the battery life indicator. Three LEDs inform you of full, medium and low battery levels through a traffic light-type system. The problem is, full and medium whizz by and 'low' will display for an entire day's use without any noticeable performance drop. We're not talking about a fuel indicator on a car here: it's a niggle rather than a product ruiner. Even with this and smaller niggles, the G700 is a fantastic deal at £60, and should be snapped up.

Logitech G700 Wireless Gaming Mouse

Starting off the year, we have another mouse under review for you. This time we're looking at a higher-end option; Logitech's G700 wireless gaming mouse. The G700 has been in my clutches for a fair amount of time, and put through some heavy testing. While many of its features are familiar, this mouse is built for gaming... wireless gaming, at that. Can it meet the very demanding expectations of the hardcore gamer? Let's run through the basics. The G700 sports an impressive 13 fully programmable buttons supporting macros, wireless connectivity through a "Nano" (non-unified) receiver, a 1000Hz poll rate, HyperScroll and a whopping 5700 DPI laser sensor. The debate over whether or not wireless should be in a gaming peripheral (and a mouse at that) will probably continue on for eternity. Many 'Pro Gamers' would never use a wireless device for gaming since even the chance of loosing connection mid-game is unacceptable - but the good news is that the G700 can be used wired as well. Before we get into the nitty gritty, let's have a gander over the design, button placement and aesthetics.

Logitech has really gone to town with the G700. The Swiss manufacturer has adorned this mouse with just about everything it could think of, including loads of buttons, a detachable USB cable, a dual-mode scroll wheel, 5600 dpi resolution, 1000 Hz ... and the list goes on! This mouse is primarily aimed at demanding gamers who'll appreciate its nine buttons (not including the classic left/right click buttons and the clickable scroll wheel) and thee customisable profiles for fast access to all their favourite pre-programmed commands. Apart from gamers, the G700 will also be of interest to anyone looking for a precise wireless mouse. Thankfully, for once, Logitech has gone for a fairly subdued colour scheme with a matte black finish and a textured surface on the sides. We love it! However, we just can't understand why Logitech had to go spoil the otherwise flawless finish by sticking on a load of big, sticking-up plastic buttons. Although the G500 had fewer buttons, and these were still far from perfect, they were much better integrated into the mouse's body than these beasts. When we tested this mouse's WAF (Woman Approval Factor), the G700 didn't come off too well. All the women in our office liked the idea of a matte black mouse, but weren't so keen on the buttons.
