We have collected 5 reviews of the Lexmark S305. Experts rate Lexmark S305 6.6/10. Reviewsor.com helps you find reviews, best prices, user reviews of the Lexmark S305 and Lexmark Multi-functional printers.
The Lexmark Impact S305 ($99.99 direct) is an inexpensive multifunction printer (MFP) that provides good speed for its price and decent text and graphics output. It doesn't give you a lot of frills, but it provides solid performance. The S305 can print, copy, and scan, print from PictBridge-enable cameras, and print from or scan to memory cards and USB keys. However, there's no way to preview images on a memory card or USB key on the S305's 2-line, text-only display. You have to print out a proof sheet, a small but annoying extra step. Scanning to either memory card or key, though, is straightforward. The S305, which measures 7 by 18.3 by 13.3 inches (HWD) and weighs 14.3 pounds, is a coffee-colored printer with rounded edges. The lid, which hides the scanner's flatbed, is surrounded by a silver bezel. The 100-sheet paper capacity is typical of MFPs in its price range, though suitable for only light duty as a home-office printer (unless you don't mind adding paper several times a week). The scanner is a flatbed that lacks an automatic document feeder (ADF). It can fit up to A4-sized paper. It can connect to a computer by a USB cable or to a network via WiFi (but not by Ethernet). We tested it over a USB connection to a PC running Windows Vista.
The Lexmark Impact S305 inkjet multifunction printer (for printing, copying, and scanning) offers a basic set of features and capabilities for just $100 (as of June 7, 2010), which would make it a real bargain except that its ink prices are extremely high. If your printing needs are modest, you might not mind; but in this price range, the Canon Pixma MX340 offers more for the money. Lexmark's setup routine can guide a novice through every step of printer setup; savvier users can skip through at a faster pace. The wireless installation we chose required a brief connection via USB. Lexmark installs exactly one shortcut--to the Lexmark Printer Home software, which adequately covers scanning but does not include the photo and creative features that some other vendors' software offers. Aside from its Wi-Fi capability, the Impact S305's features are minimal (as you'd expect at this price). Though the few buttons and backlit monochrome LCD are scattered across a large control panel, they're labeled and easy to use. You don't get an automatic document feeder for the letter-size scanner, but the lid telescopes to accept thicker material such as books.
The Lexmark Impact S305 is a rather fussy-looking device. It's quite large and heavy, but with the added attraction of having a built-in scanner and Wi-Fi connectivity, and also being a decent all-round photo printer. You'll find a paper feed tray on the top of the Lexmark and an input tray at the front. Controls are via a small mono LCD display on the front. There is a wide array of buttons, but setting up the printer is straightforward, with clear onscreen instructions. Along with a USB port and built-in Wi-Fi support, which we found easy to use, you'll also find a PictBridge port and media card slot down on the right-hand corner of the printer, making this a fully rounded device. Quality scannerThe scanner has a 1200dpi (dots per inch) maximum scan mode and we found that scans were far more acceptable than on the HP PhotoSmart C4680. However, printing can be a slightly loud affair. This is the first printer we've seen to make the most of Lexmark's new Vizix print technology. Our test prints showed a great balance between colours and even blacks looked sharp for such an entry level machine.
The Impact S305 is Lexmark's budget printer for homes that don't have a lot of money to spend but still want the added functionality of a multifunction printer. We hesitate to slap the "all-in-one" label on it, as the device has no dedicated fax capability. It can print, scan, and copy, however, with ease and impressive speed. The Impact S305 not only printed faster than every competitor in the sub-$100 range, but also maintained a solid quality rating across every sample print. The $99 Lexmark Impact doesn't flaunt the most groundbreaking design, but we suspect you will find the printer's speed and efficiency equally satisfying. Sub-$100 printers hardly ever cause a stir in attractive designs, but we were surprised to see the low-profile, sleek silhouette on the Lexmark Impact S305. Sitting at 7 inches tall by 18 inches wide by 16 inches deep, the printer is by no means compact, but its short stature and lack of protruding accessories keep the package tight and visually appealing. The top of the scanner cover features small perforations complemented by a glossy gray border and a matte black overlay that should have no problems fitting in with the rest of your office theme.
The Impact S305 is an attractive little WiFi printer, and all that's missing is a double-sided printing mode and a colour screen. As with the rest of Lexmark's range, it too has moved over to different coloured ink cartridges, whose XL versions are cheaper to run than the average. It's compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux. If you look at the whole of the manufacturer's range, the consumer multifunctions for 2010 come in four different versions: the S305, S405, S505 and S605. All four use the same basic printing equipment, so, however much you pay, you get the following: As you can see, from the entry-level up to the top of the range (which is twice as expensive), the printer itself remains exactly the same, but with various options. The S505 gets a colour screen and double-sided printing, both missing on the S305, while on the S605 the display is larger because it's now touch screen and accommodates new programmable features. You can, for instance, configure it to scan a paper document like a bill or letter and archive it in a specific folder, or send it to an e-mail account. The S405 is a little different: it has a black)-and-white screen and a fax. That's what's different about the different options, but the quality and speed of the printer, scanner and copier in each is identical.
