Iiyama Prolite B2712HDS review

The Iiyama Prolite has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, and will handle HD content from a number of sources thanks to the DVI, HDMI and VGA connectors. At this price, it shouldn't come as much of a shock that this is a TN panel. Response times are good, with no noticeable blurring in games or movies. Contrast is impressive, with the deep blacks, though whites can be a little washed out – not a problem for gamers, but if you spend a lot of time working or on the internet then a TN panel may not be for you. The horizontal viewing angle is a bit of a downside, with a yellow tint creeping in on lighter areas of the screen if it's not viewed straight on. This is only really an issue if you're planning get the whole family round to watch a film. The screen brightness is set extremely high by default. This is fine for gaming and watching movies, but your eyes won't thank you if you leave it in this mode for general work and web browsing. The contrast is easy enough to turn down, or alternatively, if you want to leave the brightness high for media, you can use the often-ignored Economy mode. The other unusual default setting is the Automatic Contrast Ratio option.

Product Survey: 23'' to 28'' LCD Monitors

A black matte bezel frames a refined, elegant design, while on the inside is a 2 ms Full HD TN display. The stand is mounted on a rotating base that allows you to adjust the height of the monitor. At the back, there are VGA, HDMI and DVI inputs for video, as well as a headphone jack and an audio line in to power the 2 x 1 W speakers. That's a rather complete hardware offering, without quite having everything that the very best monitors provide. It's still got what it takes to earn four stars in this section though, and it won't take much more work from Iiyama to get the fifth. After we left it to warm up for half an hour so, the measurements we took revealed a screen that was unusually well-adjusted. Using the default settings, we found a deltaE of 2.0. A score of 3.0 or below is generally considered to represent a colour discrepancy that's invisible to the naked eye for the vast majority of viewers. At just 2.0, Iiyama joins the , which was, until now, the only monitor to score five stars without any calibration. You'll still need to make a quick visit to the menu though. By default, the luminance is 330 cd/m², which is so bright it's going to hurt if your eyes if you look at it for too long. For the sake of your peepers, we suggest you turn right down from 90 to 50, but that won't have a negative impact on the deltaE.
