The Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-one is identical to the Photosmart 6510 apart from a few small differences in hardware. Hardware: Let’s start with the differences. The screen is smaller: 6 cm against 8.9 cm on the Photosmart 605. Here there’s no double paper loader to facilitate switching from photo prints (10x15 cm) to office documents. Nor is there a double-sided feature on this model. The rest is identical to the Photosmart 6510 (print, scan and copy). This 3-in-1 is connected to the Internet and offers a selection of on-board applications thanks to the wi-fi link-up. Speed: fast. We measured it at 19 pages per minute (ppm) for black & white office documents and 13 ppm for colour. A4 photo prints take 1 mn 24 seconds and 10 x 15 cm prints take 42 seconds. Quality: The main problem undermining legibility is still the same: the size of droplets visible on photo and office document (especially on graphs with single coloured areas) prints. Cost per page: There are two sets of cartridges: standard and XL.

HP PhotoSmart 5510 e-All-in-One

The HP PhotoSmart 5510 e-All-in-One ($99.99 direct) is a multifunction printer (MFP) geared squarely at home use—its meager paper capacity and lack of business-centered features make it a poor choice for even light-duty home-office work. As a home printer, though, it's fast and has good output quality, particularly for photos. It even has a touch screen—albeit a small one, but you seldom see them at all at its price. The 5510 is compact, measuring 5.7 by 17.2 by 12.8 inches (nearly as small as the Epson Stylus NX430 Small-in-One) and weighing 11.1 pounds. It can print, copy, and scan; print from and scan to a memory card (slots are limited to SD/MultiMediaCard and Memory Stick Duo). The PhotoSmart 5510's paper tray holds a mere 60 sheets, which may be fine for modest home use, but precludes its use for even light-duty home-office work. It lacks an automatic duplexer (for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper) or any other paper-handling options. The 5510 supports HP's ePrint: You can e-mail files as attachments to a unique address that HP assigns to the printer, and it will print out the e-mail and files. Unlike most of HP's e-All-in-Ones, though, this MFP doesn't support HP's Web apps.

HP Photosmart 5510 review

HP's Photosmart 5510 is an all-in-one Wi-Fi printer with a great colour touchscreen and support not just for cloud printing, but also HP's clever Web Apps.Despite this, the printer is relatively affordable, as you can buy it online for around £70. The 5510 has a low-slung design, similar to Brother's recent J series multifunction models. This does mean that its footprint is quite large, so you'll need a fair amount of space to accommodate it on your desk. The all-black look does give it quite a professional air and the colour 2.4-inch touchscreen on the front looks ace and makes this model very easy to set up and use. The 5510's paper handling design isn't all that impressive, though. You load sheets into a pull-out paper tray at the bottom, which can hold up to 80 sheets. Printed results are simply fed out on top of this and held in place by a rather flimsy pop-up holder that feels like it'll snap the moment someone applies any sort of pressure. Sadly, this model doesn’t have a PictBridge USB port, but there is a memory card reader hidden behind a flap at the front that accepts Memory Stock and SD cards. HP's Photosmart 5510 has a low-slung design and an all-black look. The colour screen is a real boon when it comes to setting up this model.
