I'm a hardcore PC gamer. This fact has not changed since 1998 (and yes, every day I party like it's such). When I build a rig, I expect nothing less than time travel, with it opening worm holes and real-world applications of string theory. Ha! In the end I'd just be happy to run Crysis on full tilt with a resolution of 2560x1600 while maintaining a silky smooth 60 frames per second. Dare to dream, right? Wrong! I'll dream when I'm dead. For now, I'm a proud resident of 1600p country, thanks to HP's 30-inch LP3065 desktop monitor and its native 2560x1600 resolution. It's a beast of a performer with strong color accuracy, response time, and a good deal of noteworthy features. Sadly it's still missing a few bells and whistles, which bar it from opening the gates to the land of visually supreme milk and honey. Nonetheless, it gets real close. The LP3065 is simple in appearance and straight-forward - black bezel with a black and silver stand. The footprint is restrained and unassuming, taking up moderate room. Plus the bottom of the stand houses a flat recessed tray where pens, Post-its, and other office/gamer supplies can be held. My extra mouse and wireless Xbox 360 controller (for PC) are permanent tenants here.
The most appealing selling point of the 30-inch HP LP3065 is its super-high 2,560x1,600 resolution. Gamers with powerful enough video cards to run at that resolution will not be disappointed. With its great color preproduction and wide viewing angles, movies also look great on the large display. Professional graphic artists will first have to make peace with the monitor's severe lack of adjustment options. Everyone else will have to make peace with its price. At $1,300, buyers should ask themselves, "Is what I want to do worth such a high price?" If the answer is yes and you can look past cost and don't require many video adjustment options, you'll have one of the best-performing monitors money can buy. Editors' note: HP's lackluster one-year warrant means the LP3065 is a huge investment without much of a safety net. Some 30-inch monitors experience severe performance issues 9 month-to-a-year after they've been in use. Be aware of this before you buy. The 30-inch HP LP3065 has a dark gray chassis with a matte finish, and features slightly rounded corners. The bezel measures 0.9 inch long on the left and right sides and 1 inch on the top and bottom.
