Laser Printer Reviews

A single function, colour laser with wi-fi capability, this machine targets users looking for high quality prints either at home or in a small business. With a memory of 128 MB (this can be extended to 384 MB), it will easily service a work group of up to twenty people. With ePrint, the LaserJet CP1525nw prints directly from any e-mail inbox without having to use a computer (the ePrint solution runs on any HP printer). A fairly compact model (39.9 x 50.5 x 25.4 cm), it does nevertheless weigh more than a dead donkey! There's no touch screen, just a liquid crystal display (4.7 cm) and a few buttons (see photo below) including the indispensable cancel print. It supports PCL6 and Postscript level 3 and is Windows, Mac and Linux compatible. However there's no scanner, copier, fax or double-sided feature. Nor will you find a card reader here. Like on the Brother HL-4570CDW, you can access the four cartridges from a drawer positioned at the front of the machine, which makes them extremely simple to replace. Print speed isn't comparable to competition models, such as the Brother HL-4570CDW which manages 30 pages per minute (ppm). Black & white speed is pretty good at 13 ppm however.

HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw

Big brother to the HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw color Printer ($229, 3.5 stars) and in some ways the single function version of the HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw color MFP ($449, 4 stars) - both of which I've recently reviewed - the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw color Printer ($349 direct), is clearly designed as both a personal printer and a potential shared printer in a micro office. Indeed, it can serve well in either role, although it's priced a little high for what it offers. The key word in describing the CP1525nw as big brother to the CP1025nw is big, with a 15.7 by 17.8 inch (WD) footprint that will take up a little more space on a desktop than you might like. The good news is that it's only 10 inches high, so at least you won't feel like it's towering over you. On the other hand it's surprisingly heavy for the size, at 40 pounds, which is more than some people might feel comfortable lifting and moving by themselves. Despite the extra size and weight (and price), the CP1525nw doesn't deliver all that much more than the CP1025nw. In particular, its paper handling is almost as limited. Like its little brother, it has only a 150 sheet input tray, with no automatic duplexing and no options available.
