About $600 for the Dell UltraSharp U2410 gets you a 24-inch, H-IPS monitor with great performance in games and movies, a host of connection options and ergonomic features, and a robust OSD. Unfortunately, its RGB presets are marred by dithering when viewing dark gray images and the screen has a slight pink tint. Also, its viewing angles, while good, are not quite up to the standard we expect from IPS monitors. There were very high expectations for this monitor, so if you're looking for perfect performance, keep looking. However, if you desire a monitor that, despite a few quibbles, still has great performance and a huge host of useful features, for a decent price, look no further. If you don't mind skimping on connections, ergonomic options or a wider viewing angle, the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 is $300 less and excels at games, movies, and office tasks. The 24-inch Dell UltraSharp U2410 has a matte, black chassis with a gray highlight running through the middle of the panel. The panel is 1.75 inches deep; however, the back of the display--which houses the backlight, connection options, and ventilation system--extends another 1.5 inches, bringing the full monitor depth to about 3.25 inches.
Some people see the Dell U2410 as a 24'' version of the excellent 2209WA. It's true that the two monitors have a lot in common. Both have the same response time of 6 ms and a similar design with a screen that is both height-adjustable and pivots. The monitors also both work as four-port USB hubs, with two at the back and two on the sides. However, there are a few changes. The e-IPS panel found in the 2209WA is now a plain IPS on the U2410. The new model now has a HDMI input, two DVI inputs, one VGA, one component video input and a Display Port, while the 2209WA only had DVI and VGA. A card reader (SD, MS and xD) has also appeared next to the two USB ports on the side of the screen. This is a monitor responsive enough for any gamer, and even rivals the best 2 ms TN screens. Only screens that run at 120 Hz can do better. As a result, the U2410 is at home with any kind of game. The screen isn't far from being perfect, but it doe have an input lag, a delay compared to a CRT-based monitor, of two frames. Don't worry, though, it's hardly problematic. As long as you don't plan on playing a lot of FPS games like Unreal or Quake online, then you won't notice it.
