Buffalo Technologies has long-standing presence in the storage industry and all the experience it has gained in that time is on display in the excellent TeraStation Pro TS-QVHL/R6, part of the TeraStation line of powerful yet affordable NASes for SMBs and power users. This NAS has some very stiff competition in the market from the likes of Iomega's StorCenter px4-300d NAS, but Buffalo's software gives it the edge as a serious NAS for business. Hardware and SpecsThe TeraStation Pro TS-QVHL/R6 ships in 4- ($1099.99 MSRP), 8-($1499.99 MSRP) and 12-($1799.99)TB models. I tested the 4TB version. All TeraStations are configured by default with RAID 6, although other RAID options are supported. This NAS only supports 3.5” SATA drives. The drives are hot-swappable and support automatic RAID rebuild, which I found to be a painless and well-engineered process. Optional AES 128-bit encryption is also supported. The TeraStation Pro TS-QVHL/R6 features the Intel Atom 1.66 GHz Dual Core with 2GB RAM—many of the SMB NASes are now using the Atom chip—and that, along with what's increasingly becoming a standard 2B RAM installed, makes for solid performing NASes, which the TeraStation Pro is.
