Similar in many ways to the Brother HL-5470DW , the Brother HL-5450DN is just different enough to make it worth a separate look. In essence, it's a stripped-down version of the same printer, with less memory (which, in theory, can affect speed), no Wi-Fi, and status lights instead of an LCD-based menu system. Most important, it costs enough less to be in competition with a different set of printers, and it stands out from the pack as Editors' Choice. Like the HL-5470DW, the HL-5450DN can serve nicely either as a shared printer for medium to heavy duty use in a micro or small office or as personal printer either for a power user or in a busy home office. If you connect by Ethernet or USB cable, you won't notice much difference between the two printers, and if you don't need Wi-Fi there's no reason to pay extra for it with the HL-5470DW. There's still the potential of the extra memory in the HL-5470DW giving better speed, but I didn't see a difference in our tests.
