Asus MS238H

Although it's difficult to find a significant fault with Asus' 23-inch LED-based MS238H--thanks to its low $190 price--the monitor does give you amble opportunity to do so. As a result of its design, the display is constantly tilted 10 degrees back, making it sometimes difficult to see the screen correctly. Because of its constant tilt, the monitor topples with the slightest disturbance, and its adds a slight green push to its images. However, its overall performance is good and its footstand has a novel design that adds to the monitor's aesthetic appeal. If paying no more than $200 for a new monitor is a priority for you, we recommend that you buy the MS238H because of its overall satisfying performance. If you can afford another $100, we recommend that you buy either the Samsung XL2370 or the PX2370 because of their superior performance. At first glance, the Asus MS238H strikes us as a typically stylish monitor with a thin, black, glossy chassis and a minimalist OSD array. However, the display stands out thanks to a unique, wheel-like, circular band that is the monitor's stand. The 5-inch diameter band props up the monitor from the bottom of its back, leaving no space between the bottom of the panel and the desktop.

Product Survey: 23'' to 28'' LCD Monitors

The MS238H is a central model in Asus' new monitor range. You may remember that we've already tested this range's superstar monitor, the , which got a pretty decent score. Just like the LS246H, the Asus MS238H has the same unusual design with a photo-frame-style stand at the rear. It has a 2 ms Full HD TN panel and unlike the LS246H, the MS238H has a matte screen with LED backlighting that helps push down power consumption. Whether you love or you hate its original design, you have to admit that it's not enormously practical. The stand is fixed in place and can't be adjusted and video entries are limited to VGA and HDMI. It doesn't have any built-in speakers, but Asus has included a headphones socket for an easy way to channel audio input from the HDMI entry to a pair of headphones or a 2.1 or 2.0 speaker set. Coloured Transparent Average ghosting over ten frames The MS238H is a 60 Hz monitor and makes a good alternative to the more responsive but also more expensive 120 Hz screens on the market. Its decent performances make it a good choice for gamers as well as for office computing and web browsing.

Asus MS238H LCD Monitor Review

While we tend to get worked up into a frenzy over the latest DX11 graphics cards and get deep into the latest multi-core processor releases, displays get comparatively little bandwidth here. Maybe it's because it is much more difficult to definitively quantify which monitor is better than another using a standard benchmark. As a result, testing displays can be a subjective affair that is often far from conclusive. Although some reviews are helpful, shopping for a display is best done in person, to get a better feel for image quality, aesthetics, form factor, etc. Today we're taking a look at a monitor that's part of a new trend sweeping the display market. No, we're not talking about 3D technology. The Asus MS238H is the first LCD monitor we've tested that features LED backlighting. This is basically the same technology found in the HDTV arena which makes displays thinner and lighter than ever before. LED back lit displays are so slim, they can be hung on walls like picture frames, eliminating the need for the heavy duty mounts that standard LCD products previously required. Furthermore, the MS238H sports a 23" widescreen layout, 1920 x 1080 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 2 ms response time, and ring shaped stand that distinguishes it from every other monitor available.
