Headphones Reviews

AKG has been hard at work expanding its range of headphones for portable devices, but the K430 is still hanging on in there. Falling just below the top-of-the-range K450 and K480, the K430 aims to deliver decent audio quality at a more reasonable price than its higher-end counterparts. Let's see how it gets on. On the whole, the K430 is a well-designed and well-built pair of headphones. They feel robust and sturdy enough to stand the test of time, even with frequent use. The metal headband does its job just fine and and is effectively protected by a thick layer of hard plastic and rubber. However, AKG's trademark swivel earphone joints will very probably be the first part of the headphones to give up the ghost—unless you have some trouble with the cable, that is. Although they're handy for folding the headphones up for storage or transportation, AKG really needs to take these swivel joints back to the drawing board as they feel pretty fragile in the K430. The cable is quite basic but it does have a built-in remote control (see inset).
