Monitor Reviews: 22''-30'' LCD Displays

Just as Asus had to with its VG278H, now Acer has decided to update its own 27'' Full HD 120 Hz monitor to add the Lightboost feature which is now an essential component of Nvidia's 3DVision standard. The original Acer HN274HBbmiid only scored three stars in our first review, so this time it's got a second chance to impress us. On the outside, not much has changed from one generation to the next, with the only movement of the stand a slight tilt. The usual trio of video inputs is found at the back with VGA, DVI and HDMI ports, and there are another two HDMI ports on the left-hand side. For audio, there's a pair of 2 x 2 W speakers. Acer has fitted an infra-red transmitter in the monitor itself, meaning it will be able to keep active 120 Hz glasses in sync without requiring an external adaptor. With three HDMI ports, there's room for attaching more than one source of 3D content, meaning you can leave a Blu-ray player and your computer plugged in at the same time. If, however, you have an Nvidia graphics card, then DVI is still the recommended route, as it's the only connection capable of transmitting a Full HD signal at a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
