Aside from its non-swivelling base, this monitor is fully equipped. On the back are HDMI, DVI, and VGA connectors and a two port USB hub that also serves to power the webcam located on the front panel. So it's possible to connect any type of video source – a computer, a Blu-ray player, or a recent games console – and peripheral (mouse and keyboard). The shell is basic but nice to look at. As is often the case, it uses gloss black plastic on the front and matte plastic at the rear. By default, the H243HX's colours are accurate, but we do advise you lower the brightness slightly. On a palette of 18 colour, the deltaE, or average difference between the colours requested by the graphics card and those actually displayed by the monitor, didn't go above 2.1. At that level, the colourimetry isn't what's at issue for photo editing, but rather the technology of the LCD panel. As you can see in the photo above, the display is far from even: the image is much darker at the top. A monitor with a VA panel, like the , would be better suited for that type of use. This monitor's contrast is above average. At 200 cd/m², its black level was at 0.21 cd/m², for a contrast rate of 950:1. Acer has made a big comeback with the H243HX.
