    Samsung Diva S7070 review

Samsung have just released the Samsung Diva S7070, a super-smart fashion phone that combines serious style with a range of social networking features - and all for a bargain price. Aimed primarily at women, Samsung have done much more than spray the Diva pink - for a start it's actually white! What they've done instead is focus on all the features that thousands of women told Samsung they wanted from their mobile phone, and packaged it up in a glorious-looking phone that looks perfectly at home nestled in your Hermes bag. Are the features of the Samsung Diva enough for you though? And does it ooze just the right amount of style, or is it just too bling for you? Find out after the jump with our Samsung Diva S7070 review. As you can guess from the name, the Samsung Diva is a fashion phone aimed firmly at women, and so offers a nicely timed alternative from the raft of smartphones that have come on the market lately. The Samsung Diva still gives you plenty of features, though, including touchscreen, a gloriously crisp display with 16 million colours, 3 megapixel camera, and all the social networking features you need, including access to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and the like. But because it's a fashion phone, you don't get overwhelmed with features.

    Samsung Diva S7070 Review

We have finally managed to get our hands on the Samsung Diva S7070, a handset of the Diva Collection 2010. Actually, the device is so very womanly that we believe it should be stigmatized by all self-respecting feminists’ organizations worldwide. It is aimed at the fairer sex and people, enchanted by handsets with exquisite style and dainty appeal. At least that´s what the manufacturer says and demonstrates in every possible way. For an instance, the phone box is adorned with fake diamonds (that don´t quite look like the Real McCoy). So, what´s inside, except for the cell phone itself? There is a wall charger, headphone set, USB cable, CD and user guide. We tend to think that an elegant pouch to complement the accessory set would have been a great idea in this particular instance, although Samsung has decided this is irrelevant. Quite odd indeed, given previous models targeted at ladies, like the E500 and E530, did come with similar piece of accessory. You might be thinking this is not a big deal really and while that´s exactly the case on many occasions, such an accessory is virtually mandatory for the Samsung Diva S7070, because the handset is almost entirely white and gets dirty fairly easy.

    Samsung S7070 Diva

It's not hard to see who the Samsung Diva is hoping to appeal to. From its pink packing to its diamond-patterned back cover, this is firmly aimed at teenage girls. Bear in mind that your reviewers are rather too old and male to fit this demographic, but we'll do our best. This is a phone that's all about style. Substance, not so much. The vibrant touch-screen and cute packaging tip you off straight away. The phone comes in white or black and there are very few hard keys to muck up the looks, just a call and call end key and a fancy "diamond” patterned black key. You also get a load of customisation options, including wallpapers (which will go over all three home screens instead of one for each) and an array of fonts. Once you choose a font, all your content will appear in that font, including websites, so choose wisely. While the 2.8-inch keyboard isn't the biggest, it is large enough for a virtual QWERTY keyboard – but there isn't one, strangely. It's a capacitive touch-screen, which is our preferred option and a bonus on a phone at this price point. It makes for a far smoother experience than a resistive touch-screen would, although we did encounter a few problems.

    Product Survey: Mobiles & Smartphones

Something for us girls here. The Samsung Diva S7070 has been designed especially your... wait for it... diva side. It's one of two phones in the Diva range (along with the S5150). Just take a look at it: white, pearly and padded like a Dior bag, with a central menu button in the guise of a fake Svarowski. While this touch phone plays the cutesy, girlie, card, its spec is reduced to a minimum. The eternal question then, are looks enough on their own? The high-tech industry has really cottoned on to the idea of producing girlie (or should we say diva) gear! Just take a look at the co-branded product currently available (Hello Kitty, Prada, Cerruti and so on). The originality of these feminine phones seems to appeal to a certain section of the market. Here, as elsewhere, everything depends on taste. We'll let you judge the Diva (S7070) for yourself. We would however say that it has a good finish and the 2.8-inch touch screen makes for an attractive, responsive, sensitive display overall. Perhaps a little too sensitive at times because you often pick up an application by mistake. While with a resitive touchscreen you need to be more deliberate in your movements, here just brushing it is enough. Overall the Diva (S7070) behaves itself well.

Samsung S7070 Diva preview: First look

The Samsung S7070 Diva is a style-conscious phone with a fairly standard front but with a very distinct 3D quilted pattern shape on the back panel. It marks the start of a new product family of female oriented style-driven phones in Samsung portfolio. The signature back pattern is complemented by the diamond back key dead center below the display. The phone has been obviously designed with young women in mind and offers Facebook and MySpace integration and other social network applications. Other features such as the stereo FM radio and a 3 MP fixed-focus camera with smile shot and up to ISO 800 sensitivity will keep active young people entertained all day long. The Samsung S7070 is certainly not your ordinary handset. The pearly white paint job and the 3D quilted back are two things that do a lot to set it apart - not to mention the gem-inspired Back key below the screen. It's certainly a treat for the ladies - an attempt to liven up things in the lower range of the touchscreen market. Now we did have a sneak peek of the Samsung S7070 some 10 days ago before it was even announced but now that Samsung officially unveiled it, it's time for a proper introduction.
