One of the coolest things about Android being open-source is that it's easily tweakable and adaptable to all kinds of hardware configurations. This means that it can not only power true specs monsters like the Galaxy S III or One X, but can also run on much more modest handsets... like the Samsung Galaxy Pocket that we have here. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket represents the true meaning of low-end. It's hard to imagine that you can go any lower than that in terms of specs, yet it's much better to have a smart OS like Android powering this device, rather than a feature phone platform. Even though the screen is very small for today's standards, and the resolution is the exact opposite of Retina-grade, it's still a device that lets users on budget experience what it is to have a smartphone. Design: The design of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket is your typical Samsung affair. The phone has a Galaxy S-que look to it, but is way smaller. It's constructed out of plastic, and has a relatively light weight. Size Visualization Tool The Galaxy Pocket is certainly not a looker, especially compared to some other budget Android offerings like the Xperia X8, for example.

Budget smartphones are those that hold consumers' hands as they transit from feature phones to the smartphones. They offer a \"smart OS” and features that give users a tip of the iceberg view of the potential of owning a smartphone. They may skim on certain features but then again, you get what you pay for. Today we have with us the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, an entry-level Android smartphone that's small enough to fit in anyone's palm. Is the Samsung Galaxy Pocket one of those good things that comes in small packages, or are you better off overlooking this device? One look at the device and it looks like a mini Samsung Galaxy Y. The device is really small and fits in the palm. The body of the device is plastic but with a classy enough finish considering the price point. On the face, the device has a 2.8-inch display with a resolution of 240x320 which is the standard resolution found on devices with display sizes up to 3-inches. Below the touchscreen, the device has the menu, home and back button. In terms of connectivity, the device has the headphones jack and the micro USB port on the top of the device and the volume rocker rests on the left.

Samsung are back to basics and they say there's always room for one more in the low end. Especially one that doesn't take too much space. The Galaxy Pocket makes the Galaxy Mini look like it's on steroids and the Y series like a bunch of semi pros. Life at the bottom of the food chain is far from enjoyable but it can be pretty exciting, and some creatures have figured out how to adapt. They're usually small, fast and good at mimicry. The Galaxy Pocket meets the size requirement, but we'll have to check about the speed. And no, no one will mistake it for a trimmed down S III but some feature phones may be fooled into getting too close. It's an exaggeration perhaps that the likes of the Galaxy Pocket herald the demise of the dumbphone. But this and other droids in sheep's clothing will just keep on coming. This is obviously as basic as a smartphone package gets, but the Galaxy Pocket is still a true droid. It gives users quad-band GSM connectivity and dual-band 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a capacitive, multi-touch enabled screen. It can be a basic music player and a basic camera - and the expandable memory is one of the key features that make the Galaxy Pocket a smart buy. There're lots of blank spots on its spec sheet, which make it vulnerable to older midrange droids in the same price range, but the Samsung Galaxy Pocket is for learners, not knowers. Convenience and affordability were top priorities, in what Samsung would like to see as the first step towards a long-term commitment.
