The Nokia Asha 302 comes between the Asha 300 and the Asha 303 in Nokia's updated featurephone lineup, but it doesn't quite follow the numerical order. Although obviously not a smartphone, this S40 messenger is almost halfway there. It aims to bring good connectivity and more than reasonable processing power without unnecessarily complicating the interface. Touchscreen and dual-SIM support are the two extremes in the Asha lineup but the Nokia Asha 302 sticks to the middle, finding balance and confidence in robust functionality and good build quality. It's a value package with plenty to offer to many potential upgraders looking to replace their S30 or S40 phones. The Asha 302 is compatible with any GSM network worldwide and features both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. It makes sure your email, Facebook and Twitter accounts are never more than just a click away. That's where the QWERTY keyboard is most welcome too. On the outside, a side-mounted memory card slot and metal accents make the best out of a classic messenger design. Here's what goes on inside. The Nokia Asha 302 is one of Nokia's newest feature phones, created for the manufacturer's numerous customers in the developing countries. This is a field where Nokia is traditionally very powerful, as its Series 40 platform offers an affordable, yet feature-rich handset experience. However, with recent low-end touchscreen Android models getting dangerously close as far as pricing goes, it would be very interesting to see if the new Asha 302 and its physical QWERTY keyboard would be able to remain relevant on the market.Nokia may have lost many battles recently, but it's still a leader when it comes to crafting beautiful handsets. In this particular case, this doesn't mean that the Asha 302 manages to fascinate us with its appearance, but it does mean that it is pleasant to look at. We are testing the dark gray version, which is overly neutral, but when you couple this to the chrome-like elements found on the device, it does make for one good-looking phone. You've probably read a lot about Nokia's Windows phones recently – but let's remember that the majority of Nokia's customers and would-be customers are still after basic handsets. So here comes the Nokia Asha 302, which runs on the Symbian Series 40 OS – that will be the grid interface that anyone who's ever had a Nokia handset will be familiar with. However, Nokia has tried to bring it out of the basic market by adding in some new offerings. There is a new browser for instance, to help make the most of websites when viewed on lower-end devices, as well as some clever features designed to help you cut your data charges. However, while it may appear to be trying to save you money, is it really such a bargain? Read on to find out... As we said, the Asha 302 runs on the latest version of Symbian – which is pretty much the old version with the addition of a home screen that can be customised. There are spaces for three widgets, which you can choose, although the default features calendar, social and a shortcut bar. The shortcuts bar can include your most-used apps. It's not exactly up there with the Android OS, but having just one home screen makes it really simple to find your way around – it's better than some of the bloated smartphones in the Symbian S60 range that Nokia produced.
