LG Rumor Reflex

The LG Rumor Reflex is a good texting phone, but it could have been even better. It has a comfortable, roomy keyboard, which makes it a good choice for heavy texters. A responsive touch screen, eco-friendly design, and fantastic plan pricing sweeten the deal. But poor viewing angles, a lackluster camera, limited video support, and a drab user interface mean this phone is just average for everyone else. Boost Differences and Green CredThis is the same phone as the LG Rumor Reflex (Free, 3 Stars) we reviewed over on Sprint. It gets an extra half-star here because of Boost's excellent plan pricing, and because it stands out more among Boost's selection of feature phones. For a closer look at the phone, read that review and check out the slideshow below of the phone on Sprint. It's the same exact device here, except here it comes loaded with Boost wallpaper and includes options for refilling and managing your account. It also lacks the Sprint-branded apps, such as Sprint Family Locator, Sprint Music Plus, Sprint Navigation, and Sprint TV & Movies. As an eco-friendly device, the Rumor Reflex qualifies for our GreenTech Approval.

LG Rumor Reflex

Two years ago, the LG Rumor Touch (4 stars) grabbed our Editors' Choice for feature phones on Sprint. The free, eco-friendly LG Rumor Reflex is a decent follow up, but it's about a year and a half too late. The Rumor Reflex has a comfortable, roomy keyboard, making it a good choice if you're a big-time texter. But poor screen-viewing angles, a lackluster camera, limited video support, and a drab user interface make it hard to recommend for almost everyone else. Design and Call Quality The Rumor Reflex measures 4.2 by 2.1 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.7 ounces. It's made entirely of glossy plastic, with a textured, web-like pattern on the back panel. It comes in either white or gray, but if it was blue and red you'd think it was Spiderman themed. The 3-inch, 400-by-200-pixel capacitive touch LCD is fast and responsive, but extremely limited viewing angles means there's only a 15-degree window in which you can see it properly. There are three function keys beneath the display, which allow you to select, go back, and access the home screen. Dialing numbers on screen is easy, thanks to the responsive display, but the phone also slides open to reveal a large, four-row QWERTY keyboard.

LG Rumor Reflex

Because they are nearly identical devices, our review for the LG Rumor Reflex on Sprint's network is the same for Boost Mobile's. Psst...have you heard the news? The LG Rumor is back, and this time it's called the Rumor Reflex. With a slightly bumped up camera, sleeker design, new touch screen, and a more expansive keyboard, the Reflex is a welcomed face-lift. Although it doesn't come with all the high-tech specs of a smartphone, it's a handset that can do the basics reliably and with no fuss. The device is available on Sprint's 3G network for $29.99 after you sign a two-year contract and send in a mail-in $50 rebate. If you don't want to commit yourself at all, this device is also available on Boost Mobile's network for $79.99. The LG Rumor Reflex measures 4.2 inches tall, 2.1 inches wide, and is 0.6 inch thick. It weighs 4.7 ounces, which is light for a phone that has a physical keyboard. Though that keyboard also makes it thick, the Rumor Reflex has a petite build and it fits compactly in my hand. Also, it easily slipped into my clutch, and into my jeans pocket. Front and center is a 3-inch WQVGA capacitive touch screen. Its resolution is only 400x240 pixels and it can display only 262,000 colors, so it's not the crispest or most vibrant display out there.
