LG's new HBM-585 Bluetooth headset may not call attention to itself, but that's probably by design. It's a nicely finished model, complete with a car power adapter and a tiny charging cradle that looked neat and tidy on my office desk. The HBM-585 isn't a stellar performer, but it offers comfort, clean looks, and good voice quality; that's all many folks need. The HBM-585's body measures 0.6 by 2.4 by just 0.1 inches, though LG cleverly left off the ear tip when coming up with those figures. Still, it's undeniably slim in person, and weighs just 0.25 ounces. It's made of a matte grey and black plastic that could pass for aluminum at a short distance. A multi-function button sits on the front, while a single button on the back edge cycles through eight volume settings. There's no hardware power switch. The LED is on the back edge; that's good for not annoying other people with a blinking light, but tough to see on its own. I got used to the controls over time. But the BlueAnt Q2 ($129, ), Aliph Jawbone Icon ($99, ), and Plantronics Voyager Pro ($99.99, ) all have better power and volume controls than this one.
