Jabra Wave Red
After having reviewed the Jabra Stone 2 sometime back, we were left with a lingering sense of disappointment as to how Jabra could lose its quality focus and only seem obsessed with making the headsets look good. The brilliant looking Stone 2, if you remember, lost out a lot in terms of call clarity and a poor battery backup to boot. When the Wave Red (read our review of the original Jabra Wave) landed on our desk for a review, we were worried. Is the same nightmare set to relive itself again? Compared straight on with most of the other headsets around, the Wave does seem like a big headset. But it isn't half as heavy as you would imagine it to be. The unique design means that you do wear it in a different way. Almost the entire body goes behind the ear, and the soft armature with the earpiece needs to be twisted and bent into the ear. It sounds painful, but trust us when we say that it is the most comfortable headset we have worn in a long time. Once in place, you wont even realize it is there for the most part. The surprising weightlessness is a contributing comfort factor. And also the earpiece doesn't jam into the ear at any point, and instead just lightly sits in a secure fashion. We had no problem wearing it for a couple of hours at a stretch. Feels quite solidly built, with what seems like a multi-layered design.
Jabra WAVE Review
The is the Bluetooth headset that might be your savior on a windy day, or that is what its manufacturer is reassuring us. Retailing at around $60, the headset's main selling point is its ability to work exceptionally well in windy environments thanks to the shape of its boom microphone and the DSP (digital signal processing) algorithms that it incorporates. Needless to say, we couldn't leave the Jabra WAVE untested so we gave it a chance to impress us, but did it succeed? That will become apparent at the end of our review. Now, lets start by taking a closer look at the unit itself.The crescent-shaped Jabra WAVE has been designed to remain mostly hidden behind your ear while a extends forward towards the user's mouth. We do agree that the headset is relatively big when compared to other models, but in reality, that isn't that much of a drawback because the WAVE feels much lighter than one would expect. At 0.46 ounces or 13 grams, it may be heavier than many other headsets out there, but thanks to proper weight distribution and a wise choice of materials, the WAVE does not put a strain on your ear. Unfortunately, we cannot quite say that you will stop noticing it entirely.

Jabra has been churning out Bluetooth headsets for quite a while now, and we've reviewed our share of them, some good, some not so good. Bluetooth headsets aren't as popular in India and most people simply prefer to use their bundled headsets for music and such making products such as the Wave a niche. The Wave is neatly packaged and comes with its charger, a couple of soft eartips, and a small foam cover for the mouthpiece since this tends to collect dust when travelling. The Wave is stylish looking and reasonably sleek, but we find the body a bit thick and feel this part could be slightly slimmer, especially looking at the Plantronics Discovery 975. Although the Wave could have been a bit smaller, it doesn't weigh much at 13 grams. The earpiece consists of soft transparent silicone eartips and you get two types - one with longer protrusion that intrudes just inside you ear canal while just rests on your ear. Wearing the Wave isn't easy until you figure out that the soft armature that goes behind your ear, needs to be bent inwards towards your ear. Once you figure this out, it's easy to get the Wave working, and it must be said that while the thought of bending something sounds uncomfortable, we got used to the Wave sitting on our ear pretty quickly.
Jabra Wave
The Jabra Wave ($59.99) looks like a cut-rate version of the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ ($99, 4 stars). That's not a bad thing, as the Voyager Pro is one of the best Bluetooth headsets on the market, even though it's not very stylish. The Wave offers a comfortable fit, decent sound quality, and excellent battery life. It has some quirks, but it's a good buy overall. The Jabra Wave measures 3.9 by 1.8 by 0.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 0.4 ounces. The entire design is a sort of flexible black plastic, with soft-touch rubber around the parts that touch your ear. The long boom mic promises clear transmissions, as it reaches closer to the mouth than many other designs do. Jabra packs two different sized eargels in the box. I ended up using the second one, which was significantly longer; this helped seat the Wave comfortably in my ear without moving around. The over-the-ear design is comfortable enough to wear all day, though you have to twist the headset a bit to fit it in your ear at first. Jabra also includes a small foam boom cover for use in windier conditions. The first time you power up the Jabra Wave, it automatically enters pairing mode.
