Product Survey: Bluetooth Headsets

iLuv has specialised in providing all sorts of audio accessories, including iPod docks and mini HiFis. It's no big surprise, then, to find them moving into mobile accessories, with a Bluetooth headset with a perfectly respectable specification. It might look good on paper, but we were soon disappointed when we tried the i222 on. The strap, for instance, is far too short, and will prevent anybody with a large head using it. And although the parts that actually touch your head are in rubber, they're too narrow to be comfortable. There are two joysticks on each side of the headset, in front of the headphones. They're easy to use, but a little too delicate. Having been disappointed by the hardware, we weren't expecting much from the i222 when we started listening to it. The sound isn't very good, with some rather dubious compression. It's a good job that people usually keep their mobiles in a pocket, as the headset struggles to connect to a Bluetooth signal as soon as it's more than a few metres away. As for the microphone, the people you call will struggle to hear you because the microphone is a long way from your mouth.
