FUSION GARAGE has announced the availability of its Joojoo tablet in the UK, and The INQUIRER went along to the launch for a walk-through of the Linux handheld device and obtained an exclusive demonstation video. The company claims that the 12.1-inch tablet is the world's largest capacitive touchscreen device. Beneath the screen is an Intel 1.6GHz Atom processor and an Nvidia ION chipset. Like Apple's Ipad, there is no keyboard and the battery is not removable. But the similarities stop there, because the Joojoo is open. Fusion Garage also plans to offer a 3G enabled version of the Joojoo within three months, according to the firm's chief executive, Chandra Rathakrishnan.

In diesem Video stellt PC-Magazin-Redakteur Klaus Länger das JooJoo-Tablet der Firma Fusion Garage vor. Das JooJoo-Tablet ist ein reines Web-Pad. Lokale Apps können nicht installiert werden, die 4-GByte-SSD dient nur als Systemlaufwerk und Cache. Als Betriebssystem für das 12-Zoll-Atom-Tablet dient ein Minimal-Linux mit WebKit als Oberfläche. Die Startzeit des Tablets liegt daher bei nur neun Sekunden. Leider ist die Akkulaufzeit mit drei bis vier Stunden etwas kurz. Die Bedienung mit Wischgesten ist anfangs ungewöhnlich. Das Scrollen mit zwei Fingern erlaubt Drag-and-Drop in Webseiten, auf dem iPad funktioniert das nicht. Allerdings kann man beim JooJoo nicht zoomen. Flash wird unterstützt, nutzt den ION-Chipsatz aber noch nicht für die Wiedergabe, sodass die Wiedergabe von HD-Videos noch nicht ruckelfrei möglich ist. Auch der Zugriff auf lokale Daten wie Fotos, Musik oder PDFs via USB funktioniert noch nicht. Derzeit ist das JooJoo eher ein „Work-in-Progress", Fusion Garage verspricht aber regelmäßige OS-Updates, die fehlende Funktionen nachrüsten, die Bedienung flüssiger machen und auch die deutsche Lokalisierung verbessern. The color, touch-screen tablet formerly known as the CrunchPad is 12" and, unlike the iPad, will support Flash. A year ago all the blogs were telling you this could not even run Flash , now we all know which tablet cannot run Flash even into it's second generation...with 9 times faster gpu ...! Seriously I am constantly impressed by what the ion and Atom pairing can do , I was expecting the game to be a total frame by frame side show , but take a look see. Now if only some manufacturer could wake up to the idea that we want an i7 Windows 7 tablet with discrete ( or equivalent ) graphics. Ironically 1 year after the "blogs" declared joojoo dead , it is currently the most powerful gaming tablet in the world ,with more compatibility and choice of real games than any rival , from DOS to Unreal Engine to Cryengine 3 , all are possible on the humble Atom powered Fusion Garage Joojoo. If any one can help with tweaking the settings for Crysis 2 further please let me know and I will post a follow up . So forget l33t gaming and welcome the dawn of the il33t3rati !
