Fusion Garage Grid 10 WiFi+3G tablet

We love new and innovative technology. Well, we're supposed to love it at least. Truth is, there's a caveat. We only love new and innovative when it's executed well. The Fusion Garage Grid10 tablet has a unique OS interface, but...OK, we won't bury the lead, here. It's not well-executed. Keep reading to find out why. With a width of 10.8 inches when held in landscape view, the Grid10's chassis stretches slightly farther than even the Toshiba Thrive tablet's 10.75 inches; however, the Grid10 is only a bit heavier than the iPad 2, so it feels pretty light when carried around, but definitely awkward when held in both hands. Part of the reason for the awkwardness is the Grid10's length, but its angular, pointy corners don't really help matters in the comfort area either and we have the bruises on our palms to prove it. OK, there were no bruises, but those corners really do start to dig into the palms. The glossy black front bezel is unfortunately easily mussed up with fingerprints, as is the Grid10's glossy screen. Fortunately, the dark-gray textured back has a smooth, matte finish, saving it from more fingerprint untidiness. The left side of the tablet hosts a headphone jack, a 40-pin connector (for power and connecting to a PC), a microSD card slot, and holes for speakers.

Fusion Garage Grid10 Review

At a time when Android and iOS are dominating the tablet landscape, it takes a bit of moxie to introduce a completely new user interface. Trying to put the de-bacle that was the JooJoo behind it, Fusion Garage has released the Grid10 tablet. It features a novel grid-based interface and it integrates social networking in clever ways. At $299, this 10-inch slate is attractive price-wise, too, but has Fusion Garage reached too far?As its name suggests, the Grid10 has a 10-inch display surrounded by a 1-inch bezel on all sides. All in all, it's an attractive tablet. The front face--a 10-inch screen surrounded by a 1-inch glossy bezel--looks sleek and minimalistic. The matte black plastic back is curved, similar to the Acer Iconia A500 tablet, making the Grid10 seem thinner than it is. The Grid10 Logo in chrome is a nice touch.Measuring 10.8 x 6.8 x 0.4 inches, the Grid 10 has similar proportions to the ExoPC, and is one of the larger tablets to come through our labs. Only the ExoPC (11.6 x 7.6 x 0.6 inches, 2.2 pounds) is larger. Still, the Grid10's design makes its 1.5 pound weight feel lighter than it is.Unlike other Tegra 2 tablets, there are a paucity of ports on the Grid10: The left side has a headphone jack, a proprietary charging port, and a microSD card slot, and the right side has a power button.
