Spotify Unveils Blackberry App

By MaximumPC, published 19-10-2011

We never thought we’d say this again after last week’s horrify service outage, but it’s actually kind of a good week to be a Blackberry owner! When you’re done downloading free $100 worth of free apps to your Blackberry Curve, point your browser over towards Spotify, because the mega-popular music service just rolled out a long-awaited app to bring its tunes to RIM devices… kind of. Kind of, you see, because the app is still in a beta-like “Preview” stage. In fact, Spotify will only go so far as it say that it will only definitely work with the 9780 Bold, 9700 Bold, 9300 Curve, 9000 Bold and 8520 Curve, and only on GSM networks, although the company did tell TechRadar that it works with Blackberry OS 7 devices like the Blackberry Bold Touch 9900, too.  You’ll only be ...

Updated: Spotify launches BlackBerry app

By TechRadar, published 19-10-2011

Spotify has finally released a BlackBerry app, giving crackberry addicts access to its premium service from your handset – as long as you're not the proud owner of a BlackBerry Torch 9800. The preview release of the long-awaited Spotify app is compatible with most other BlackBerry handsets currently on the market, though, and requires a premium subscription (of £10 a month) to stream songs to your phone. BlackBerry owners can download the preview app from Spotify now, or hang fire for the final, fully tested version which will be making its way to the BlackBerry App World soon. SpotifizzleAll the traditional Spotify mobile features are included – streaming songs, building playlists, caching songs to play offline, starring favourite tracks and scrobbling music to Last.fm. The full list...

Review: BlackBerry Torch 9810

By TechRadar, published 09-09-2011

Overview, design and feelThis time last year, BlackBerry fans were salivating at the imminent release of the Torch 9800. For the first time, those who'd been demanding a touchscreen smartphone from RIM (without SurePress, which we'll just gloss over) were getting their way with the safety net of a keyboard below that slid out. On top of that was 3G, a 5MP camera and the brand spanking new OS. What wasn't to love? And 12 months on we feel like we're experiencing a bit of deja-vu, because the Torch 9810 is now hitting shelves. And to look at it, not much has changed. The only thing that you'll notice as being really different on the exterior is the material it's made from. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 has been given less a makeover and more a new jacket. Gone is the black and dark chrome fascia,...

Review: BlackBerry Bold 9900

By TechRadar, published 08-10-2011

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 comes as something of a shock. You see, for years, BlackBerry has, in a sense, been catching up. That's not a dig at its parent company – it's practically royalty in push email and corporate handset circles. But it has been rare for RIM to lead the way. Cameras, internet browsing, HTML emails – all were included on RIM's phones years after they'd become standard fare on other handsets. For recent examples of decent phones that didn't really push the envelope all that far, just take a look at the Bold 9780 and 9700.But the Bold 9000 finally offers some cutting-edge tech, and in an attractive package to boot. Its 1.2GHz processor, high-spec touchscreen, brand new OS7 and HD video camera are all specs we never really expected a BlackBerry to have before the next m...

Vodafone nabs exclusive red Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo

By TechRadar, published 28-06-2011

Vodafone is set to be the only network to offer the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo in fetching cherry red. The handset, unveiled by Sony Ericsson at Mobile World Congress 2011 in February, will be available on other networks in blue and is yet to receive its official UK release date, with Vodafone simply listing it as 'coming soon'. Not soon enoughThat means there's still a bit of a wait ahead for fans of the Xperia Neo, which seemed likely to go on sale way back in April. Unfortunately, supplies have been restricted by manufacturing delays caused by the earthquake in Japan earlier this year, and the Neo is yet to launch in the UK. The Android 2.3-running Neo shares a lot of specifications with its stablemate, the Xperia Arc – 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 4-inch reality display and HDMI-out, so ...

Hands on: BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 review

By TechRadar, published 05-02-2011

It's been a long time coming, BlackBerry's touchscreen Bold handset. While the BlackBerry Torch offered both a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, it wasn't perfect for keyboard aficionados; that annoying edging, the cramped keyboard… although the touchscreen was nice to have, typing was a bit of a pain. But with the launch of the BlackBerry Bold Touch, its first proper touch and type hybrid, has RIM finally cracked it?RIM has made a bit of a song and dance about the new handset's looks; it's a fair shout. With aluminium highlights it has a nice, solid feel about it, and the woven glass back panel is very sharp and lightweight too. It's so nice to pick up a BlackBerry and it not be a bit brickish. The Bold Touch is RIM's slimmest handset to date, and if you're a regular BlackBerry user you'l...

BlackBerry Touch aka Monaco/Monza caught in wild

By SlashGear, published 31-03-2011

Perhaps the most interesting device from RIM’s leaked 2011 roadmap has been caught in the wild, the BlackBerry Touch (aka Monaco/Monza). The all-touch smartphone has found its way into BGR‘s clutches, who have wasted no time in sharing hands-on photos of the BlackBerry OS 6.1 device. According to their sources, the Touch will not be part of RIM’s existing Storm line, and in fact the Canadian company has supposedly axed that range altogether. It takes SureType with it, the little-loved “physical touchscreen” technology. What OS 6.1 seemingly brings is a switch from a BlackBerry PIN to a BlackBerry ID, which looks like it could be a link to various new cloud services. Very little in the way of new details from this particular leak, so we’re assuming the ...

A picture of the BlackBerry Bold Touch, nicknamed Dakota/Montana, not only offers users a touchscreen, it also features the spacious QWERTY keyboard found on the first Bold 9000 model rather than the more cramped QWERTY used by RIM on the Bold 9700/9780 iteration...

Blackberry Bold 9780 ? New wine, old bottle [Review]

By Thinkdigit, published 27-01-2011

When the Bold 9700 was launched in October 2009, little did RIM (Research In Motion), or anyone else for that matter, know, how much the smartphone market would change in the space of a year. Change it did, and RIM faced a lot of competition from the likes of Apple iPhones and Android-based smartphones. There was an urgent need change the operating system and the interface in particular. The OS5 looked dated and dull in comparison to the highly customisable Android OS and even the good looking A [...] Read the entire article
