If you've never had a smartphone before, but fancy being able to browse the web, play games, watch video and listen to music on your handset, but only have a tiny budget there's good news. As there is if you want to get your social media fix on your phone. That's because Alcatel has brought out the One Touch 903, an Android handset priced at less than 50 quid. There are plenty of budget smartphones on the market now – take the Samsung Galaxy Y and the Orange San Francisco II for instance – both well under 100. But the One Touch 903 offers the full gloriousness of smartphone goodies for only 40. Okay, it's not an iPhone, and corners have been cut to keep the price down, but nevertheless it proves a solid little handset that will stand up to the odd knock or drop. It's not the slimmest of handsets but should still slip into a pocket. An old story The operating system of choice for the Alcatel One Touch 903 is Android Gingerbread 2.3, which is a bit old these days. It offers five desktops, which can be personalised with shortcuts to favourite apps, plus a small choice of widgets – including a Google bar that allows you to search the web without firing up the browser.
