The ViewSonic PJD6531w ($689 street) is a relatively bright yet easily portable data projector with good image quality. Built around a Texas Instruments DLP light engine, the PJD6531w has a WXGA (1,280-by-800) native resolution, compatible with widescreen laptops with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It's rated at 3,200 lumens, rather bright for its size, bright enough to throw a clear image in a well-lit room. At 4.5 by 11 by 8.6 inches (HWD) and 5.9 pounds, it's compact and portable; it comes with its soft carrying case. The PJD6531w has a range of input options including VGA, RJ45, composite video, S-video, and HDMI. It lacks a USB port for a thumb drive, so you can't stand a standalone presentation but have to connect with a data or video source. The PJD6531w has two 5-watt speakers, but the audio, though of decent quality, was still fairly soft. It does have an audio-out port, so you can use it with powered external speakers if need be. The projector performed well well in data image quality on our suite of DisplayMate tests, with a few minor issues. Though colors were generally bright, there was occasional tinting; for example, white or gray areas showed mild reddish tints, and yellows sometimes seemed a bit muddy.
