Toshiba 47zv650u LCD vs LG LE5500 with blueray content in clone mode Hate to say it folks but the Toshiba 47zv650u looked FAR better than the LG LE5500. I know it shouldn't. I couldn't believe it myself. Toshiba's 100k:1 contrast ratio vs the LE5500's "5mil:1 contrast ratio", Toshiba shouldn't have stood a chance! But the picture just wasn't as vibrant. Blacks were darker sure but you couldn't tell during a scene that wasn't completely black! The LG's dejudder and motion smoothing was chalk full of artifacting and hitching. Now that's not to say the Toshiba doesn't have artifacting but the LG, in my opinion was far worse. They both use the same 47" LG S-IPS panel so the LG with it's local dimming LED, on paper, should whoop on the Toshiba, but it wasn't so. Back to the store it went. :p

As LCD and plasma vie for popularity and picture quality bragging rights, one perceived weakness of the LCD camp has provided a reason for TV makers to charge more for step-up models: image blurring. Higher refresh rates like 120Hz and now 240Hz aim to clean up blurring with newfangled technology, and Toshiba's ZV650U series is one of the least-expensive 240Hz sets available. Mind you, in most normal program material we find it nearly impossible to appreciate the antiblurring effect of higher refresh rates, but some people are really bummed by blurring, and for them the new LCDs--or perhaps the nearly blur-free images produced by plasmas--hold appeal. Unfortunately for this particular Toshiba, high-tech-sounding processing can't overcome lighter black levels and a few other picture-quality foibles. On the other hand, for those dead set on LCD who don't mind paying a bit extra for 240Hz, the relatively low price of the Toshiba ZV650U series makes it worth considering. Series note: We performed a hands-on evaluation of the 47-inch Toshiba 47ZV650U but this review also applies to the 42-inch Toshiba 42ZV650U and the 55-inch Toshiba 55ZV650U. All three sizes share identical features and specifications. Design Toshiba deserves credit for bucking the trend of flat-panel TV frames composed entirely of glossy black. Testing out a Toshiba 47 inch LCD HDTV (47zv650u) with blueray content in clone mode. Just setting up so i can do some lcd input lag tests on this monitor. Got it at costco for only 900 bucks and seems to work well with my PC. My old HDTV monitor was a 47 inch LG 47LH30. The LG is a great performer as far as input lag but the picture could be better, hoping this will be a worthy upgrade and i can move my LG out to the living room to replace an aging 720p samsung plasma. Filmed using a tiny Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V camera and a tripod. Great camera btw, it does so much in such a tiny package. Sorry for all the zooming - just playing around... pc spec: i7 920@ 4.4ghz, sli geforce 260/216, crap loads of hard drives for media storage. :p

First, one line of dead pixels across the bottom, 3 months later then two. About the same time, the sound started degrading. Two more months, now flickering; top half screen dark, bottom bright - flicker, flicker. A total waste of money. I have had two Toshiba laptops and was impressed with the build, and even a Toshiba 32" Tube TV lasted 8 years, not too bad. -- Apparently the LCD-TV division quality is sub-par at best. Big issues with the screens. Save yourself the aggravation. Less than 2 years of use; 47" Regza. No support from the factory after warranty (1 year). Purchased May 2009 - no commercial usage. 47ZV650U
