We've already tested the Sharp LE821E, which was the first to use its Quattron technology, and the LE830, the third generation. We've now finally been able to get our hands on the LE814, the missing second generation which was launched in September 2010. Like its two brothers, it uses a display with four different coloured sub-pixels (red, green, blue and yellow) instead of the usual three, but everything else is almost exactly the same as on the LE821E down to just a few details. One of these details is the fact that, unlike the LE821E, the LE814 includes suport for Aquos Net +, giving users access to online services from Sharp, including TV on demand and weather and news updates. Apart from that, though, the two TVs are very similar, and both use LED backlighthing around the outside of display which keeps them both at less than 4 cm thick. Unfortunately, the finish used on the display hasn't changed and it's still very glossy, so you'll need to be careful to keep this TV away from direct light sources. Both TVs have a media player that can access photos and both SD and HD DivX video via a USB port, as well as support for the DLNA standard via the Ethernet port.
