Sharp Aquos LC-32LE700UN Review

We review the Sharp Aquos LC-32LE700UN LCD TV, part of Sharp's LE700 Series which features the Full Array LED backlight system. Sharp’s latest 32-inch Aquous HDTV delivers some excellent features at an upper-midrange price point, including a 120Hz refresh rate, a fast 4ms response time, and four HDMI 1.3 inputs. But the most important feature by far is the television’s full-array LED backlight. As such, we recommend it – however, after extensive testing, we did have a few reservations about the set worth noting as well.First, however, a brief explanation of just what the Aquos LC-32LE700UN brings to the table is warranted. Essentially, a full-array LED backlight consists of a grid of LEDs behind a diffuser, which is a significant improvement over the cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlights used in lesser LCD TVs. LEDs provide higher brightness and contrast levels and much better uniformity, so that blacks are truly black and not a shade of gray. LED backlights are also friendlier to the environment than CCFLs, because they consume less power and don’t contain mercury. The Aquos uses white LEDs; higher-end LCD TVs use RGB LEDs, which deliver a much wider color gamut.

Product Survey: 30'' to 39'' TVs

This model is the 32'' version of the 40'' TV that we tested in our labs, the Sharp Aquos LC-40LE700E. Everything we said in the original article holds true--the only thing that's different is the size! The only exception is that some manufacturers fit different sized televisions with panels from different sources. In that case, our comments are only valid for the panel that we originally tested. Contrast, black levels, colour handling and ghosting are all subject to change from one panel to another. Manufacturers who do fit the same panel in all of the TVs in a range can expect the same results across the whole range. The only factor which could be prone to slight variation is the brightness, producing slightly different contrast. According to our own tests, and assurances from manufacturers, the results of one TV can accurately be applied to others in the range.
