Samsung PL210

The Samsung PL210 is marketed as the slimmest 10x optical zoom camera on the market. At 19.7mm thick, we can't really argue with the claim, as it easily slots into the front pocket on a pair of jeans, with a lens that telescopes out to give it the equivalent of a 27-270mm zoom range. The most impressive slimming done on the PL210 may be on its price, however, as it rings up at under $200 total. We found it didn't offer performance that rose above its peers in any single category, but for those looking for a slim camera with a great deal of zoom, the Samsung PL210 may fit just fine. We found the Samsung PL210 offered a color error of 3.35, at a saturation level of 103.4% of the ideal in bright light testing. The results were good, though not particularly spectacular. The PL210 does offer some image adjustment options for contrast, sharpness, and saturation, but these are not set modes and are only available in the main shooting menu. More on how we test color. The PL210’s color accuracy was not terrible by any stretch, but it lagged behind both the Canon 100HS and the Samsung PL120, just barely edging ahead of the Nikon S4100.

Digital Camera Reviews: Choose the Best Compact Camera

As is usually the way, the price of superzoom compacts is being pushed ever downwards. With the exception of a few star models that are packed with technology, you can now pick up a compact with a CCD sensor and a 10x zoom lens for under £200. The Samsung PL210 is one such model. It's affordable, colourful, compact and has a 27-270 mm zoom lens. Since the PL210 is first and foremost a budget compact, it's fairly safe to assume that Samsung has had to save money on the camera's design and build. Like many entry-level compacts, the PL210 is therefore a bit like comic-book baddie Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face) with a nice, pleasant side and a distinctly more ugly side. The more visible front face of the camera is made with high-quality materials and is well made and assembled, as is the upper edge, which slopes forward slightly and is home to the shutter-release button and zoom controls. On the back it's a completely different story though, as here, the PL210 is made from low-quality plastics and has a low-def TN screen with tight viewing angles and approximative colour fidelity (even when you're facing the screen straight on).

Samsung PL210 14 Megapixel Digital Camera

Amazon has over 3500 results in their point and shoot digital camera section. It’s hard to make waves in a market flooded with competitors. It comes down to three factors when looking at point and shoot cameras : Mega-pixels, optical zoom, and screen size. We are taking a look at Samsung’s PL-210 let’s see what the manufacturer has to say: “A powerful zoom in a slim case delivers winning style and performance. The PL210’s 10x Long zoom and 27mm lens let you capture previously hard-to-get images. Now you can record all the action on the far side of the field or get a wide shot of the entire team’s victory celebration. The 0.8″-slim case is easy to hold; the large 3″ LCD screen lets you see everything and change settings with ease for detailed 14.2 Megapixel stills or HD-quality video captured in 720p.” Samsung’s blurb has answered the three big questions, and provided us some mouth watering details about what this compact beauty can do. I’m interested to see how it performs, often these point and shoots fail to deliver where it counts. As a former SLR user I expect a lot out of my cameras.

Samsung PL210 Review

Review: The Samsung PL210 has its high points, but a lack of build quality and limited manual controls keep it from standing out from the pack.The Samsung PL210 has a simple setup while boasting some impressive specs – namely, it’s 10x optical zoom and wide angle lens. The camera performs admirably for a pocket cam, but touting itself as a supremely thin design housing big capabilities is a bit of an overstatement: It’s neither shockingly tiny nor does it absolutely blow the competition away.But that doesn’t make it bad. Many of the PL210’s functions are easy to use and at a $199.99 pricetag, there’s plenty for the exclusive-handheld camera set to enjoy.The PL210 has one undeniably impressive feature, and that’s its 14.2 megapixel sensor combined with its 10x optical zoom. Its dual image stabilization and 3-inch LCD are also nothing to sneeze at, but the pocket cams serious selling points are its superzoom, wide angle capabilities and pocket cam size.That said, the chassis does not have a $200 feel. It isn’t particularly slim or sturdy-it falls somewhere between fitting comfortably in your pocket and just big enough to be a nuisance. It isn’t obnoxiously large or bulky, but you aren’t going to be picking this device up because you can easily slip it into your back pocket.
