Samsung NX1000 Review
The Samsung NX1000 is a new entry-level mirrorless compact system camera. The plastic-bodied NX1000 features a 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, high speed capture and fast auto focusing, ISO range of 100-12,800, 1080p HD movie recording, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, 3-inch LCD screen, 8fps continuous shooting, Sweep Panoramas and Samsung's unique i-Function lens. The i-Function button on compatible lenses allows users to control the NX1000 by scrolling through manual settings (shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO) and using the focus ring to change the parameters for each setting. The NX1000 also has a special i-Scene lens priority mode, which allows users to select the scene modes, six different Smart Filters and the intelli-Zoom function. The Samsung NX1000 is available in black, pink or white and costs £599 / $699 in a kit with the 20-50mm II lens. The new NX1000 is very similar to its bigger brother, the NX210, so a lot of the comments that we made about that camera in our review apply equally to the entry-level NX1000.
Samsung NX1000 review
The Samsung NX1000 is the entry-level model in Samsung's latest generation of NX line compact system cameras (CSCs). With an RRP of 599 / US$699 / AU$649 (and a street price that's come down considerably since its launch), the plastic-bodied, 20.3 megapixel Samsung NX1000 is clearly aimed at photographers looking to take the next step with their photography and take more control over the picture-taking process.Key to the Samsung NX1000's rather impressive spec sheet for a camera of this class is its aforementioned 20.3 million pixel APS-C CMOS sensor, an ISO range stretching from 100 to 12,800 and Full HD movie recording. Samsung NX1000 Review
After the NX20 and NX210, we're reviewing the third model in Samsung's hybrid camera range, the NX1000. Although it's the lowest-end model in Samsung's NX range, it's still more expensive than a Sony NEX-F3 or a Panasonic GF5. However, this Samsung snapper has a higher-def sensor and comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Seeing as the NX1000 and NX210 are effectively the same on the inside, when building this lower-end alternative, Samsung has had to come up with ways to make the NX1000 a sufficiently entry-level model and to justify the difference in price. The NX1000 isn't an unpleasant camera to handle, even if the materials used here obviously aren't as nice as those used in the NX210. The grip handle is nice and deep. It's quite easy to keep hold of in spite of its slightly slippery finish. Generally speaking, the NX1000 is nice to hold and nice to use, with controls that fall conveniently under your fingers. There are no problems with assembly either. Note the loss of the little settings thumb-wheel seen on the top of the NX210 isn't particularly problematic. The screen is probably the most striking difference in this camera, as instead of using AMOLED technology like the NX210, the NX1000 has a bog-standard LCD.
Samsung NX1000
The NX1000 ($699.99 list with 20-50mm lens) brings Samsung's excellent Wi-Fi implementation to an interchangeable lens camera, making it possible to push top-quality photos to your phone, home network, or favorite social networking outlet. The 20-megapixel camera is a little slow to start and suffers from some shutter lag, but is still worth a close look for its Wi-Fi features and overall image quality. It doesn't manage to oust our Editors' Choice mirrorless camera, the Sony Alpha NEX-F3 , which lacks Wi-Fi, but does offer a tilting screen, built-in flash, and the ability to add an electronic viewfinder. The NX100 is one of the smaller mirrorless cameras out there, especially when you consider that its APS-C image sensor, the same type found in consumer D-SLRs, is physically larger than those found in Micro Four Thirds cameras. The included 20-50mm zoom lens is actually about the same as the standard 14-42mm kit zoom included with Olympus PEN Micro Four Thirds cameras. The NX1000's 7.7-ounce body measures 2.5 by 4.6 by 1.4 inches, only slightly larger than the 7.7-ounce Olympus PEN E-PM1 . There's no built-in flash, but there is a small external one included—you'll just have to slide it into the camera's hot shoe.
Hands on: Samsung NX1000 review
Samsung's new NX1000 is the most compact member of its CSC line-up, but it houses the same 20.3 million pixel sensor as the NX210 and NX20.Samsung also claims that at the NX1000 is the lightest CSC currently available. This is no mean feat given that the camera uses an APS-C format sensor, but it is partly due to the fact that the body has a plastic construction, and this lacks the high quality feel of the NX210.Like the NX210 and NX20, the N1000 features Samsung's Wi-Fi functionality. A button on the top of the NX1000 allows a quick connection to be made to a smartphone or tablet so that images can be shared etc.Unfortunately, we were unable to test the Wi-Fi function with the pre-production samples that we used, but Samsung is hoping it will give the NX line added attraction to novice photographers wanting to upgrade from a compact camera or mobile phone. The remote viewfinder function which enables a smartphone to be used as a viewfinder and controller for the NX1000 is especially interesting. The whole Smart Panel which is normally seen on the back of the camera is replicated on the mobile screen so it is possible set 16 features including aperture, shutter speed and white balance remotely as well as trigger the shutter.
