The Samsung DV300F is a 16 megapixel compact camera featuring a 1.5-inch front LCD screen display for easier self-portaits and built-in Wi-fi connectivity. The DV300F also offers a 5x optical zoom lens with 25mm wide-angle setting and maximum aperture of F2.5, dual image stabilisation, 720p HD video recording at 30 frames-per-second, 3 inch rear LCD screen, a wide range of special effects, and the intelligent Smart Auto feature which automatically adjusts the camera's settings. The Samsung DV300F is available in black, dark grey with a red back or dark grey with a blue back, priced at £179.99 / $199.99. The Samsung DV300F is shorter than the height of a business card, with official 95.2 x 56.5 x 18.3 proportions and a mere 120g weight. Sitting well in the palm, this is a compact that truly is compact. No one will feel discomfort slipping the DV300F into a trouser pocket, and in fact it's almost too easy to forget it's there. We had the black matt model in for review, which has a totally smooth brushed metal faceplate and a more textured faux-leather rear.

At first look, the Samsung DV300F's ($199.99 list) front LCD makes it stand out from the crowd, but the camera's most impressive feature is its Wi-Fi sharing capability. It allows you to transfer photos to your smartphone, post directly to social sharing sites, or transfer them to a PC—all without wires. Despite this neat feature, the 16-megapixel camera struggles with image quality at even modest ISO settings, has a limited zoom range, and is rather slow, preventing us from wholeheartedly recommending it, especially when our Editors' Choice point-and-shoot camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX150 ($249.99, 4.5 stars) is just $50 more. The DV300F is pretty petite, even for a compact camera, measuring just 2.2 by 3.7 by 0.8 inches and weighing 3.5 ounces. It's only a little bit smaller than the Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7 ($199.99, 3 stars), a 10x zooming camera that measures 2.4 by 3.9 by 0.9 inches and weighs about 4.8 ounces. The DV300F's lens only offers 5x zoom, covering a 25-125mm (35mm equivalent) field of view. Going as wide as 25mm is actually quite useful, especially when framing two people at arm's length in Self Shot mode.

Samsung has packed an extraordinary amount of kit into a very small body on the DV300F, with two screens, built-in Wi-Fi and a 16-megapixel sensor. All in all, it's an impressive feat of miniaturisation that leaves you wondering how so small a device will perform in the wild. Here's where you'll find out.You can pick up the Samsung DV300F for around £150 online. The second screen is set into the front of the chassis. It's so discreet that when not in use, you won't even know it's there. Somehow, Samsung has avoided fouling the DV300F's sleek, textured finish by having the screen show through the casing when activated through the menus. Indeed, when you first unpack the camera, there's even a small sticker frame around it to show you where it is. Despite being well disguised, the image is bright and it clearly marks out recognised faces. If you're using the timer to fire the shutter after a delay of 2 or 10 seconds so you can run into the shot, it uses the screen to count down to zero so you know when it's going to fire. The front-mounted screen comes into its own when shooting self portraits. Samsung has really gone to town with the creative shooting options. Even those that you might not use all that often are beautifully implemented.

The Samsung DV300F is the first DualView camera from Samsung to feature built-in WiFi functionality. As a result, Samsung has packed it full of innovative ways to share content online that don't involve a computer. The camera has a 16-megapixel CCD image sensor and 5x optical zoom, with ISO speeds ranging from 100-3200. The camera is a nice compact addition to Samsung's 2012 line of WiFi-enabled cameras, with some smart features. The DV300F is a bit smaller than the ST700, Samsung’s lead DualView camera for 2011. Most of its front real estate is taken up by the 1.5-inch front-facing LCD, which is low resolution, but only used for framing and playing short animations in children mode. The camera offers a sleek design, with standard button layout and home key for returning to the main menu. The body itself is a mix of plastic and metal, with a rubberized coating on the rear of the camera for grip. Most of the controls for the DV300F are clearly labeled on the rear of the camera, with playback/delete buttons, a four-way control pad, and a home key and menu button. the top of the camera houses the shutter release, zoom toggle, power button, and front LCD power button. The buttons are well-laid out and will be familiar to other point-and-shoot users.
