We have collected 3 reviews of the Samsung BD-C6500. Experts rate Samsung BD-C6500 8.3/10. Reviewsor.com helps you find reviews, best prices, user reviews of the Samsung BD-C6500 and Samsung Blu-ray players.
Almost any way you look at it, the Samsung BD-C6500 is a first-rate Blu-ray player. The picture quality is among the best we've seen to date, it has audio options that are particularly friendly to older home theater surround sound systems, and it brings Internet services like Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and Pandora to your television, too. And at $225 (as of 12/6/2010), this model won't break your wallet. Our image quality judges gave it Superior grades (our highest) throughout our tests in the PC World Labs, with only a smattering of Very Goods. The colors in the computer animated Cars were exceptional. We noted better white balance (when compared to our reference player, a PlayStation 3) and extremely sharp and reflective water glasses in the first scene from the black and white Good Night and Good Luck. And the contrast was superb in chapters 4 and 20 of The Searchers: Skin colors looked especially dramatic, with the tanned, brown skin of the men marking a contrast against the paleness of the women. It even managed to impress us at the more difficult job of upscaling DVDs.
Now that entirely entry level Blu-ray players can be bought for less than £100, manufacturers asking for more are having to work harder for their money. The BD-C6500 scores by engineering in some nifty features to justify a heftier price tag. Claimed to be 'the world's fastest Blu-ray player' when it was launched earlier this year, the stylish deck supports BD-Live (Profile 2.0). Samsung's status as the world's biggest memory chip manufacturer enables it to build in 1GB's worth for no discernible premium, while USB storage is alternatively available. The front USB port, meanwhile, will accept a wide range of media, including video music and photos. Samsung's Internet@TV is accessible with or without Wi-Fi and brings a selection of web favourites – including YouTube, Twitter and Google – to your screen. Some of these widgets are pre-installed, but you can choose your own, as they are downloaded to the player and share the aforementioned 1GB with BD-Live data. A Samsung representative confirmed that catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer won't, alas, be included. However, you can play media stored on any PCs or DLNA-compliant storage devices on your home network.
There's a lot to like about Samsung's BD-C6500, from its reasonable $249.99 (list) price to its wealth of Web apps and widgets, and excellent HD picture quality. Throw in integrated Wi-Fi, lots of A/V ports, 1GB of internal memory, and a cleverly designed remote, and you've got our latest Editors' Choice for mid-range Blu-ray players. The BD-C6500's very compact 1.7-by-16.9by-8.8-inch (HWD) piano black cabinet sports a faux brushed-metal front panel with a mirrored display panel placed in the middle. That display uses big, bright LEDs to provide disc status, playing time, and Wi-Fi status. Behind a drop down panel on the left side of the unit is the disc tray, and on the front right side of the device are touch sensitive Power, Open/Close, Stop, and Play/Pause controls, but Samsung neglected to add the equally important Reverse and Fast Forward controls here. On the far right is a USB port tucked away behind a rubber port cover. On the rear panel you'll find the typical assortment of A/V connections, and then some. Video outputs include HDMI, component, and composite ports, and there's a secondary USB as well.
