An 8" touch photo frame in a 4:3 format, with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, the PanTouch Clear is slim, which isn’t the case for all the competitors, has 1 GB of internal memory (standard with new frames) and supports audio (MP3) and video (AVI). This model is incontestably thin. Front on, the effect of the transparent glass frame, is really quite nice: the photo looks to be suspended in the middle of the frame. The PanTouch Clear has a double frame (one white, one black), which is a nice idea, except that dismounting it and installing it requires a bit of patience and quite some technique! Overall it’s got a good finish. The base however is not as stable as it could be, which is a real black spot for a photo frame. To put your photos into the frame’s ample memory, you can either use the USB port or one of the memory card slots (CompactFlash, SD, XD PictureCard, MemoryStick, MemoryStick Pro et MultiMedia Card). A good idea that is becoming common for this category of product, you can program the frame on a timer to come on and go off, with different settings for the week and weekend.
As you might be able to tell by festive store displays, Christmas is right around the corner. One of our favorite gift ideas is the digital photo frame. It says, “I care,” “I’m sentimental,” and “I’m not helplessly stuck in the 20th century.” PanDigital produces a lot of photo products for all of your gifting needs. The latest in their line is the PanTouch Clear, in an 8-inch model, which we’ve found to be a welcome option. Obviously, the frame’s designers realize that you can get bored of simply browsing through snapshots of old vacations and tired family photos: While the device does promise storage for up to 6400 images, it also throws in options for music, video and recipes. You can also tap into other content from your networked computers and/or the Web, using a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. However, you will need to purchase an optional adapter for each of these features. PanDigital sells the Wi-Fi one for $24. Any Bluetooth one will do, but the PanTouch Clear doesn’t come with either. Out of the package, the PanTouch Clear’s 8-inch screen is a bit large for an office desk, but perfect for the living room, bedroom, kitchen or other area of the house.
