Product Survey: In-Ear Headphones

Panasonic is perhaps better known for cameras and plasma TVs than earbuds. We shouldn't forget however that it also has a very reputable audio brand: Technics. Nothing astonishing then about finding in-ears in their catalogue. Panasonic has gone for a cubic zirconia speaker structure. This material is often used for immitation diamond but one one of its great qulities is its strength. This makes the speakers very resistant to knocks and scratches. Panasonic is also promising a cleaner less distorted sound. We'll have a look at that further down. In tems of the bundle, we're down to dry bread and water. You have to make do with three bud sizes in silicon and a case - a well designed case. No foam tips, no cleaning accessories, no mini-jack or plane adaptor. In terms of comfort, the shape of the speakers shouldn't be problematic for anyone, whether you wear them in the standard or round the back position. And then the nice surprise: detachable cables (see inset). The HJE900s highlight the bass sounds (though not to the extent of certain Monster products) though not too much and the treble is also high at the expense of the mid-range (still perceptible) but not too aggressive.
