With its wafer-thin profile and edge-to-edge glass design, the 42-inch LG 42SL90 ($1,999.99 list) is sure to elicit a fair share of oohs and aahs - that is, until you fire it up. While the edge-lit LED backlighting allows for a cabinet that measures just 1.2 inches thick, it produces a significant amount of distracting backlight glare around the sides. Overall, colors are accurate and picture detail is good, but black levels on this set could be better. Also you don't get Web connectivity, which is surprising given this model's $2K price tag. There's no denying the 42SL90's good looks. As with its slightly chunkier sibling, the 42SL80 ($1,699.95, ), the 42-inch panel is covered with edge-to-edge glass over a very thin bezel that transitions to a silvery hue along the bottom edge. At just 1.2 inches deep, the 42SKL90 joins the Samsung UN40B7000 ($2,199.99, ) as one of the thinnest HDTVs we've reviewed, and like the Samsung set, it begs to be mounted on a wall. If you want to place it on table instead, the panel sits atop a sturdy rectangular acrylic base that provides up to 40 degrees of swivel. Along the left side of the TV are an HDMI port and a USB port for playing music and viewing photos stored on a portable device.
